On my first scan last Thursday I had 3 follicles at about 9mm. I was really pleased with that as my AMH is through the floor and itβs all I had on my first round from which my little boy came. Anyway the nurse decided it was appropriate to say βbut they might stop growing, it happensβ ... What!?! Why say that to me?? Itβs never happened on either of my previous cycles. It was pure speculation that sent me away feeling so pessimistic.... like ladies like us need any help feeling pessimistic π€¦π»ββοΈ I really wish professionals in fertility settings could be educated on what to say and more importantly what not to say π‘ I have lost count now of the occasions when nurses and doctors have been so wrong and could have really saved me heartache. Sorry for the rant.
Anyway I expected to go today to see 3 underdeveloped follicles (thanks thoughtless nurse for the sleepless nights) only to find 5!! Yes 5!!!! 5 FOLLICLESβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ I actually feel like I have won the lottery. 3 are at 17mm 1 at 16mm and a bigger one at 21mm. Egg collection booked for Thursday ππ»
My consultant left notes for them to ring him (itβs his day off today) He was very surprised! He actually said βwowβ.
I am all too familiar with how highs are often followed by major lows on this shit ride but today Iβm going to enjoy the good news.
Since my first scan I have tried to eat as much protein as possible eat absolutely no sugar and eat only fruit and veg for carbs. Maybe this helped but I also did this for my first cycle and there was no change in follicle count.
Anyway it just shows anything can happen!

Hi
I agree. Some nurses need to think about how they word things and the impact it has on people.
They may see several people each day but its no excuse to make flippant comments.
When i went fir my first scan a nurse said, you did have the discussion about the success rate due to your age etc, to which I replied yes. She then went onto saying, so you just thought you would give it a shot followed by we will rebook you back in, in 3 days time and possibly talk about getting you a refund due to potentially cancelling your treatment.
I was in shock! Numb! And speechless. The drive home was all a blur to then have to relay this to my partner.
It was the worst weekend id ever had.
Fast forward to another week & I was having an ET and now in my 2WW.
Still a long way to go but that nurse didnβt help my rollercoaster journey to start with.
So you are right. Just goes to show anything can happen ππ»ππ»ππ»
Iβm so sorry you had that experience. As if this journey isnβt bad enough we have to deal with things like that. I think the fact they see several people a day (they are specialists) isnβt an excuse, on the contrary, they should be trained in how to communicate with their patients. It is such a hugely important element of our treatment. Inappropriate comments like these can ultimately make the difference between a patient continuing with treatment or not. Itβs huge! It makes me so cross.
So great you got through to your TWW πͺπ» Well done for staying strong. Very very best of luck for OTD β¨π€π»ππ»π€π»β¨Xx
Great update. So happy to hear that you MORE follicles than you expected. Amazing. Not helpful comments from the nurse. They must get immune to it all or something. Sometimes it must be just another medical procedure to them, but to us it's our baby (chance at a baby). Happy news that egg collection is booked for Thursday. xxx
Thank you for the update countrymouse! I had my updating scan today after 11 days of stimming and have 4 follicles measuring 21, 18, 18 and 16 (a couple of other measuring 12) so Iβm triggering tonight with egg collection on Wednesday. Iβm kind of hoping the 12mm will catch up or at least maybe contain an egg, but I doubt it!
