Any advice for a first timer of egg collection?? Hope to do transfer of frozen embryo if they grow 🤞🤞
We have to do ICSI due to my husbands genetic carrier of CF, that’s how we got on this journey. All my levels, scans and hormone levels have been good through stimulations.

Hi and great news on reaching the egg collection stage! I had my egg collection on Monday and it was not too bad.
I was admitted as a day case. Before going down to theatre, I met with the nurse, anaesthetist and my consultant (all seperately). They go through a pre-checklist and consent form. They also explain exactly what will happen when you go down to theatre. My consultant even practiced the questions they would ask me down in theatre lol.
Once down in theatre, they put a cannula into your arm which was probably the only bit that was uncomfortable. The whole time, the team down there were chatting away, having a banter - really they put me at ease. I only remember feeling something cold going into my arm and then next thing I knew I was in recovery with a lovely nurse offering me a drink.
After I returned to the ward, they monitored my observations and waited until I peed. Then the consultant and fertility nurse both came to see me to tell me what the outcome was (managed to collect 8 eggs) and what the next steps were. Which, by the way, includes vaginal pessaries twice daily (surprisingly not as bad as I had imagined it would be) and to expect a call from the embryologist the next day. They also performed ICSI the same day.
I am now two days post procedure and so far I have only experienced mild bloating and abdominal pain. But it is getting better.
I hope this helps! All the best on your journey xxx
Ah I have been watching this post hoping for an answer. I am also having egg collection tomorrow and I’m super nervous. Hopefully I’ll just fall asleep but I have had sedation before and was awake and remember everything!
The anaesthetist that I met was very good in alleviating all my concerns. I also had sedation but luckily fell asleep. However, the anaesthetist did say he would be by my side the whole time so if I needed him to increase the drugs, he would do so (safely!). In the end I didn’t need it as I drifted off to sleep! So talk to your anaesthetist as I found this very reassuring for me xx all the best for your egg collection! X
Yeah was alright. Thought the sedation wasn’t working at first then next thing I know I woke up in the recovery room with little mix playing haha. They got 9 follicles out, got the call this morning 6 were mature lost 1 and 5 fertilised although 1 has a cracked shell (as the embryologist said) but said it was still alright but I think it will be a goner, but who knows. How was yours?
That’s still a good number! Mine was kinda the same, remember walking to the operating room and then was out. Woke up in recovery chair. They told me they got 14 eggs and this morning called to say 9 got fertilized. So now we have to wait for day 6/Wednesday to see how many get pgs testing. 🤞 hoping all yours make it to that day!
Oh that’s soo good! Very positive for you. I’m having my transfer either Sunday or Tuesday I guess it just depends on how they are getting on. Thanks I hope yours do too!
