Unexplained infertility

Hi all, just had initial consultation with clinic today, we have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. All initial investigations came back normal (pelvic ultrasound, AMH, thyroid, and semen analysis). We are lucky enough to already have two children but TTC for two years and no success. Consultant referred us straight for ivf- I honestly expected a lot more tests, but he said he didn’t see any point as I’m having normal periods and been pregnant before. I’m new to this so anyone with any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Zara, those tests are the ones for referral to IVF. I also have pretty much unexplained infertility. In my case I'm now 41, so age most likely a factor. I think more info might be gleaned by actually trying a cycle and seeing if everything happens as expected, e.g. follicle development, endometrial lining development, fertilisation and survival of the embryos in the lab etc. I could be wrong, but unless there is any clinical indication, I don't think specialist tests are considered until there's being a few failed transfers. I would recommend that you make sure you are on folic acid and vitamin D, as low levels caused delays with me. I'd also expect screening tests for Covid, Hiv etc. Best of luck
