Baseline not looking good :-(

Had baseline this morning. Only 4 + 3 follicles, compared to 11 + 17 at the same scan last round. No one seems to know what’s going on! Still time for all the little ones to grow so we’re doing 5 days of meds and next scan on Monday to see. What a difference. Anxiety was already high coming into the clinic so this hasn’t helped!! Didn’t think I’d also be facing a cancelled egg collection today!!

I know trying hard not to be. Very difficult when it’s SO different from the last round’s results though!

I know lovely, we all focus on the numbers, but remember, you have more than 1.

It’s about quality. So maybe this time with less qty will be more quality xx

I know it’s hard,

I’ve just done a cycle, it never gets any easier

Keep moving to keep the blood pumping, lots of water and protein.

If you start to think a negative thought, it your mind starts to wander, get up do something, make a cuppa, anything. By doing something you focus on that and stopping thinking if that makes sense? Plus you get moving too 🥰.

Just wanted to say a) aaargghhhh how maddening can see why you are stressed followed by a very quick b) dont panic yet. I have had scans where they have only seen 3 and then they have got 9 eggs out of that side.. AND you have ages for your follicles to grow and quantity doesnt always mean quality. (I know I am telling you everything you already know but sod it I will again!)

Hi Hifer, I've been there, this is completely random, next cycle you could have your highest number of follicles ever. Also - I stopped paying attention to baseline number at cycle 3 onwards because as other pointed out, you may end up with a lot more follicles than what you could see at baseline. Or you may end up with less follicles but more PGS normal embryos.

You never know until collection, testing and transfer.

I know you have! It’s just that both my previous cycles were similar so it’s so weird! Let’s see what happens on Monday. 🤞. If not a vast improvement then they want to cancel and go again next month. Let’s hope we don’t get to that x

Interesting, my clinic never offered to do that and as a matter of fact, they don't give you your baseline numbers unless you ask them.

Oh interesting. Yep we go through the numbers after every scan and bloods etc. Defo ask them if you want to. I will pay for the treatment up until cancellation but I won’t pay the full package again until we know we’re defo going ahead. The nurse was just really surprised at the difference from today and precious cycles so we’ll see.

I know its a huge change from previous cycles, but you still have more than enough for a successful cycle don't you?

I only had 3 follicles throughout mine and was super nervous but they all grew really well. I had 2 more smaller ones turn up at the end but they were too small to get excited over. With my 3 I ended up with 3 fertilised eggs. 1 in the oven and 2 in the freezer.

Don't loose hope yet. Still time for more to turn up or for the ones you have to be big mature eggs.

Thanks. It’s definitely not over until next Monday at the second scan. Because I have PGS testing we lose about half of our embryos to that so we need a

good number to start with. Because of my previous history and the numbers I have got in the past, they just want to see if this round is an anomaly or not. Fingers crossed all the follicles take off between now and next Monday 😉 xx

A baseline 7 follicle count is still reasonable, try not to worry, and hopefully fewer means they will all be better quality.

They could only ever see a maximum of 5 for me. By the time I came to egg collection only 4 possible, and they only managed to collect 3. Only 2 were suitable for ISCI and only 1 fertilised.

My OTD was yesterday and I got a bfp. I just wanted to let you know this so you know that it really isn’t all about numbers but having just the right one to focus on.
