Hi ladies, I am wondering whether any of you had/or know about success stories with own eggs at age 43-45 and how many embryos transferred it took to be successful? Thanks

Xx

Hi lilly

Have you had an AMH level taken do you know the status of your all your levels as this would help determine how lilkley it would be to get pregnant with your own eggs.

I can’t comment on OE at all but if you ever need any advice regarding DE I can answer any questions you might have.

From what I was told by my consultant, the AMH is about egg quantity rather than quality. The main factor on quality is age. I am trying to see if there have been success stories in my age brackets with OE.

That’s correct yes quality - I was just asking incase you hadn’t had it done that was all.

Unfortunately there will be very few successes age 43-45 - with own eggs ivf - also once you know Amh you can always work on quality after that? They say there are things that can be done to improve quality - but again don’t work for everyone - I tried most things!

I had very low amh at42 and only two eggs retrieved - they didn’t implant although the blasts were good grade-

Turned to DE in the end after several natural MC’s after this- now 27 weeks pregnant.

I hope I haven’t upset you with this reality but it also depends on how much money and time you have - most clinics will suggest donor egg at that age but many women ( like my self) wants to try OE first to be able to at least say you tried.

If you want to be a mum you will find your path and your dream will come true! All the best. X

How many embryos did you transfer and how many natural miscarriage did you go through before moving to DE?

londonrc in reply toLilly12255

We transferred two with OE ivf age 42- I had 4 natural miscarriages in total- 2 before ivf and two after - the emotional rollercoaster was just too much- I couldn’t deal with the sadness every birthday / Christmas not being pregnant - I got pregnant with DE on first transfer only transferring one as the odds at my age ( 46) were so much better. However as you can see it took me a long time to grieve not being able to use my own eggs but I wanted to be a mum again ( have one son own egg naturally) whatever it took. Xx

Hi Lilly

My consultant has said he would originally only treat me until 42, but as I keep getting pregnant but having MC he isnt ready to give up yet. He has now said we will review each round as they go, but he said 45 is their cut off although there are clinics in London who are treating up to 48 and actually one clinic (I dont know which) had 16 successful births last year for women over 46! All with own eggs. So it can be done xx

Thanks Daisy. It gives me hopes. I really want to use my eggs and trying to work out how many times I shall try.

Hi there. I agree with the others re AMH. Mine was 1.99 at age 40 and I was recommend DE straight off. I wanted to try OE and had 1 short protocol IVF cycle (self-funded) which was abandoned due to a poor response. I then switched clinic to try natural modified with 3 'banking cycles'. Unfortunately after many cancellations with only 2 eggs collected, neither of which fertilised, I had to accept my OE wouldn't work and start to think about DE at age 43.

Apparently people have been successful in improving quality. Have you got the book 'It starts with the egg'? I think it would be hard to follow all of the advice in there, but some could be useful. I have a copy I no longer need and would be happy to send you. Dm me if you'd like it. X

Hi GiantPanda, thanks, I bought the book and implemented everything in there just before the lockdown. I had already 2 cycle and although no great success, one egg fertilised and I now have one embryo in storage. So if I try enough time, I might stand a chance I hope.

That’s why I asked about AMH because mine was 0.4 at 32 years old so I had no option but to go for donor eggs.

Hi Treezuk, it’s strange. My consultant told me that low AMH is about egg quantity not quality. At 32, your egg quality should be ok even if numbers are low??

I had all the tests done and I was already menopausal and had some of the symptoms , I spoke to several clinics and they all said DE was the only way forward plus my one remaining ovary had a cyst on it which would of stopped production of any eggs anyways so we felt it wasn’t worth it money wise I was 35 before we had the ivf , my level dropped to 0.2 a year later. I should add that I had several miscarriages and an ectopic which I think also pointed towards bad egg quality.

I think sometimes consultants will tell you that to give you hope but in my opinion a lot of people struggle to get pregnant once they’re level is low and if they can produce just one egg usually they still aren’t best quality but that being said some people conceive as soon as they start taking HRT so it can happen.

Lilly12255 in reply totreezuk

What is HRT?

treezuk profile image
treezuk in reply toLilly12255

Hormone replacement therapy so estrogen and progesterone - in some cases this can reset the balance in some and they fall pregnant but it’s a very small percentage

Lilly12255 profile image
Lilly12255 in reply totreezuk

How did you find out you were menopausal?

treezuk profile image
treezuk in reply toLilly12255

Because my FSH level was higher than ur should of been for my age and my estrogen was very low I started to get a lot of hot flushes and didn’t realise at first what was going on so got bloods done which confirmed that I was Peri menopausal so I was referred to a specialist who deals with menopause in under 40’s and they started me on HRT then I did the ivf which is practically the same meds anyways had the twins then went back on HRT

Lilly12255 profile image
Lilly12255 in reply totreezuk

Thanks. I have searched on internet but could not find the FSH cut off level that is considered peri menopause. Do you have any idea? Xx

treezuk profile image
treezuk in reply toLilly12255

I think it depends on age and the level for example I was 32 and my fsh was 16.5 which is considered to high for that age I think if memory serves me correctly anything over 10 they worry about in a person that’s under 50 (normal menopausal age) I know people younger than me with a higher FSH - that’s why it’s called premature ovarian failure as it’s happened before the time it should of it’s also called premature ovarian insufficiency or diminished ovarian reserve all at the exact same thing tho.

My fsh a year later when we tested was 56 I think 🤔 so it was in keeping with what I’d been told.

Thanks for sharing. Mine ranges between 15 and 19 though I am 43, so that’s not comparable perhaps. I have had some hot flushes a year ago for a few weeks and then nothing until I started IVF. Since IVF, I wake up warm every night around 4am. I assumed it’s the meds and their effect staying in my body for months.

It could be or it could be that your levels aren’t where they should be maybe get them rechecked if it carries on.

Morning, I’m 44 been ttc naturally for 3 years ( have one son previous relationship who is 25 now !)

Unexplained infertility, iv got a good amh .

We had our first ivf cycle in august

8 eggs , 2 good embryos were transferred.

Failed ☹️

My age & egg quality is the reason , although we could try again the success rate is very low .

Devastated but ... had some really helpful advice from this site & we are seriously looking into DE . Sending you hope & strength 🦋

Hi Lilly, I am 36 and considering DE too. My AMH is low and I’ve had 3 failed IVF cycles with only 1 embryo reaching blasto in total. I don’t have much to add to this convo thread but am routing for you and will follow the information closely to learn from u and others too xx
