Is weight gain a side effect of IVF meds

Or have I just been eating too much?

I seem to have ballooned since doing ivf, especially in places where I never had issues (eg knees and neck 🤣🤣). Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks xx

I’m the same! I think it’s water retention and also the progesterone makes you really bloated. I know it’s not from over eating as I’ve literally got no appetite at the moment.

My skin is also incredibly dry ☹️

Basically feel like one fat ugly mess 😂

Hello hope4040, when will my knees be back to normal? I just can’t bear to look in the mirror or wear anything other than leggings and a oversized t-shirt. 😅

Ditto! I just feel horrible at the moment.

In some ways it’s a blessing being in lockdown as I don’t have to see anyone looking a complete mess 😂

Me too. On top of that my hair is in a state and my skin is still not back to normal after a sudden outbreak of spots last month.

I do read that ivf medications cause weight gain but I'm on letrozole before ivf which is for ovulation which caused me weight gain.... But since my first cycle failed this month I don't feel any weight gain but I do feel bloating which has reduced once I started cardio and weights which I stopped once I started ivf... So now m trying hard to sweat at home and also made some portion control... I'm 69kgs and 5.7"(168 cms) trying to reduce 5kgs until covid issues resolve and my ivf next cycle starts...drink water it flushes all ivf medications....

I'm the same, since doing ivf I've put weight on.

Not sure why? I'm eating regular meals, more greens than ever before, more water. I'm exercising.. walking and light cardio.

It is annoying isn’t it. I have been trying to stay fit and slim all my life and I’m now just getting bigger in all the wrong places 😅

For me I can only lose weight by eating hardly anything 🥺

I didnt notice anything in my clothes but attended one party and when i saw the pictures my oh my i looked different. Bloated all the way even my face ! Ive looked better. After my first bleed everything went to normal so i do think its the meds xxx

So pleased to hear you are back to normal. I had my first post ivf period last month but am still fat. So perhaps I just need to go on a diet and can’t blame it on the meds 🤣🤣

in reply toMmmpudding

Hahahaha and so what ? Isnt it also a bit the time to let go. It is a bit for me tbh xx

Everything is a side effect of these awful drugs! Now I'm a few weeks off them I feel less ill, my skin is clearing up, my breasts don't hurt.... any problems you're having - you can def blame on the IVF.

Now that you mentioned skin! I had so many spots on my face 2-3 weeks ago, it was like being a teenager again. I thought it was stress related but now thinking about it, it was more likely to be meds related. And my tummy is like a balloon. First thing in the morning it is flat’ish but after drinking my cup of tea, I look like I have eaten a football! 😅

I put on weight with ivf drugs in strange places too, back of neck and inner thighs. I’ve been off ivf drugs for a month now and starting to feel a bit better but my skin is still dry, hair falling out and my breasts are still so so sore (we had a mc). Belly starting to go down a bit also. It just takes a while for hormones to balance back out, some people faster than other but hopefully soon 🌺

I’m sorry to hear about you mc hope you are recovering ok from it. Inner thigh is a problem area for me too. How annoying 😅

Thank you, just praying now for this pandemic to be over and (feeling guilty) for wanting clinics to open to try again!

You’ll get there with the weight, a lot is water and will balance with time. Might take a couple of cycles to get back to normal but as other ladies have said, drinking lots of water is good. Good luck 🌺

Thanks for the water advice. I will keep drinking! I can’t wait for the clinics to reopen either. We are trying naturally this month. My period is due on Saturday but I can feel it coming already 😞.
