Day 8 scan findings

So, we had our day 8 of stims scan this morning - 5 follicles on the left ovary and 1 on the right. All are ‘a little smaller than they’d like at this stage’ so we’re now looking to hopefully do EC on Friday instead of Wednesday 🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻

Hoping that them being on the small side doesn’t mean they’re not developing as they should - we don’t have many follicles so really hoping the ones that are there end up with a nice mature egg in them! 🤞🏻🤞🏻😂🤦🏽‍♀️🤞🏻🤞🏻

It’s quality not quantity 😉I only had 5 follicles and got 5 mature eggs 😉

It’s daft isn’t it, when I start a cycle I tell myself not to get my hopes up & to remain pragmatic about the whole thing but when you’re in the middle of it its not so easy - doubting & questioning everything! 😂🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Best wishes for your follicles! Things go to their own timeline with this journey! Friday instead of Wednesday isn't a bad thing! Just gives them a little bit longer to grow. Lots of love xxx

Hey JoP we were the same at day 9 I burst into tears when the nurse went quiet then left then came back with a very serious face! Why do they do that!!! Right hasn’t responded left had but they were small and only 5 but not as big as they would have liked but they did the same as they are suggesting to you and kept going a little longer and it did make all the difference 🤞 for you xxx

Thank you Fozzy. Yeah, now I think back to my last round I think they pushed us on for a bit longer than standard then as well. As long as they keep going in the right direction that’s the main thing! Xxx

Hi Jo, we only had 4-5 follicles on the left and one on the right. The latter was growing much faster than the others, so they were concerned initially that they might not catch up. Roll on a few weeks and they wound up retrieving 3 eggs (of the possible 5-6 max that I had, but not including the initial front runner), all 3 eggs fertilized, and 2 made it to day 6 blastocyst to be frozen and tested. I was feeling all kinds of despair at our initial numbers and expecting the worst, but our experience (at least so far) has given me so much more hope. Best of luck to you!

That’s great IRL! Wonderful to get 2 out of the 3 - they must be good quality! 😁💕When you say ‘tested’, are you doing PGS?

Yes 👍 We’re doing back to back cycles to try and “bank” as many as we can (I turn 42 this year). Currently taking progesterone (oral tabs) before my next cycle, finding they’re really affecting my mood, much more than the IVF meds, but only two more days of those, so not so bad. That’s (back to back rounds) what we’ll probably have to do as well (we’re doing PGS too) - all depends on how many we get this round as we need at least 5 to test.

Good luck for your next round. I really struggled with progesterone pessaries during my first round - they really affected my mood too!

We don’t have to but our logic behind it is:

I’m 40 in July and the stats (as I’m sure you know) are 60% abnormal embryos at that age, so if we do 5, hopefully we’ll end up with 2 (🤞🏻🤞🏻 In theory) that are ok.

Plus our clinic charges £2.5k a go - but they’ll do up to 5 for that £2.5k (if we only did 2 it would still be £2.5k).

So we just figured to get the best bang for our buck and the best chance of hopefully having a couple to put back in, at least 5 would be a sensible option! Xx

Hiya. I had a similar situation. I had 7 folicles and they thought only 5 possibly 6 would make it to the correct size. We had our egg collection 12 days after we started and they managed to collect 4 eggs. 2 fertilised and 1 made it to a 5 day blastocyst. We are now 8 weeks pregnant. Try not to worry about the numbers. U wish someone had told me not to. I was obsessed googling and kept seeing people with 20 eggs and thinking it's never going to work but it only takes one. Stay positive. Everything crossed for you. Good luck xx
