Two sacs one empty

Hey every today I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant. I went to have my scan and there were two sacs. One had a heart beat and measuring 6 weeks 6 days and one was empty. (I only had one embry transfered). They want to see me in a weeks time as said it’s possible it may appear, though the chances are slim.

Has anyone else had this happen before?? Is it dangerous for the baby with a heartbeat?

Thank you xxx

Sorry I have not had this before. Did they say what it could be? If it was twins from embryo wouldn’t there be one sac? Xxx

I think it depends when the embryo splits. Randomly was reading something about the different types of identical twins the other day!

Yeah who knew! Apparently there are three different types 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Congrats on your pregnancy!

A good friend of mine had this, and in her case the second sac didnt develop.. but that was just her case and I know everyone can be different

She lost the empty sac and had a heavy bleed at about 9 weeks and was really panicked by it - in fact we all panicked she was miscarrying (it was her 7th cycle), but all was fine with baby and he is now a happy and healthy 15 month old!

Good luck x

Sorry I’m just replying been feeling v poorly the last few Days. It’s the unknown isn’t it. I thought I would come out of the scan and if all ok, I would be able to rest for two weeks until the next scan. Obviously not the case 😂. I’m

An identical twin myself so the odds of my egg splitting was next to none..... was just so shocked. Anyway five days until I find out! Pleased your good friend was ok ❤️

Glad to hear you got to see a heartbeat from your little baby although seeing 2 sacs must have been a surprise. I don’t know enough to comment on the other sac - hopefully get a definitive answer at your scan next week ♥️ x

Hi this happened to me but with a double embryo transfer. I went back for a further scan at 8 weeks and there was still nothing in the empty sac but little bean my now daughter was absolutely fine and was fine all through my pregnancy. They just said the empty sac would either come away by itself or would do so when I gave birth which is what happened to me . Hope that helps - feel free to ask any other questions xx

Oh wow really..... was there any complications throughout the pregnancy???? We’re you able to give birth naturally? Congratulations xx

Aw thanks and congratulations to you too !! No complications at all throughout my pregnancy I was very lucky, Other than very bad morning sickness. had extra scans later on at 30 and 36 weeks due to being icsi and I have an under active thyroid. I gave birth naturally 10 days late after my waters went and they decided to induce me but they only got as far as very early induction before she decided she was having none of that and arrived like an express train lol! I really hope everything goes well for you and if you think of anything else ask away! X

It's not a danger to your healthy baby. I had this, they call it a vanishing twin - and that twin usually gets absorbed without any bleeding. I had the same, saw a heartbeat in one sac and one empty sac - which was absorbed and I had no bleeding at all and my baby was born perfectly healthy.

I felt delight that I had a heartbeat but felt odd about the empty sac. That is perfectly normal. Good luck with the scan next week.

Yes this is exactly how I feel.... so odd. The consultant said it’s way more common in non identical twins..... but as I had ivf, and only one implanted it was much more of a shock for her to see. She said there is a chance she may see something on the next scan.... and not to be shocked. Do you know anything about this?? Congratulations on your healthy baby xx
