Just had our clinic call and the highs of hearing that 6 of our 7 eggs have fertilised are now balanced against the panic of the (possible) decision ahead. We have not done any real research as I didn’t want to tempt fate and assume we would even get to transfer but now that this is a real possibility I am concerned that we have been recommended to transfer two embryos. My age is obviously a factor in why clinic are suggesting (38 almost 39). Any advice or reading suggestions would be much appreciated!

One or two?
I’m waiting for a phone call too and might have the same dilemma. I think it depends whether you will have something to freeze and what is the quality of the embryos. When I looked at the statistics at my clinic for my age 35-37, 50% of patients had 2 transferred and 7% ended having multiples. It is hard decision but that 7% tells me that it’s not that easy. Good luck x
My clinic suggest having 2 transferred improves chances however I go against the ‘norm’ - I’ve had 5 transfers, 3x transferring 1 resulting in BFP and the other 2 transferring 2 both unsuccessful. I would say speak to your embryologist they will be able to offer you the best advice about quality and what they think is best xx
I had a huge post about this the other day. Lots of different articles and input from people. In the end I have decided on one. I would like all the nutrients and positivity to go into that one. Also, there are some schools of thought that say if you put two back and one is not as good quality then it can have a negative impact on either surviving.
Whilst I would like more than one child there really are medical implications for multiple births which I had really glossed over before. But not only is it a much bigger strain on your body, but there is more chance of premature birth which leads in itself to complications. Also, if something happens to one then you may have to make decisions that will impact the other.
There are just, for me, too many risks added with multiples so I am opting for one.
However, the last time I did two. It was my first ever BFP. But ended in anembryonic (empty sacs) which had to be managed. Who knows - maybe what happened was that one impacted the other? I cannot allow myself to think about that. But I want to put my all into this one embryo I am going for this time.
Good luck xxx
Thanks- the temptation is to dream about getting everything you wished for in one go but the more I read the more anxious I am. Worse still I might be agonising over something that’s not even an option- only had the EC yesterday.....trying not to get ahead of myself. Sending you lots of good luck too xxxxxx
Thank you. Hope you get your call soon xxx
I would personally always go with what the clinic recommends but it is a big decision to make.
From what I've been told and from what I've read, if the 2 transferred are of the same quality, the chances are higher at conceiving single or multiples but if one embryo is a lower grade it can cause the body to reject both.
I had a double tranfer recently that ended in bfn, just a guessing game I think.
Hard choice ahead but I hope you make the right decision for you.
Good luck. Xx
