We have our 2nd round of IVF in Jan using frozen embryos and are considering transferring 2 embryos. Has anyone on here transferred 2? We know it has higher cases of success rates so wanted to see is anyone has some more info. We are doing it on the NHS..

Aww sounds lovely, I’m hoping to put back two this time on self funding. I just wanted to say when I had my first round on nhs I was refused 2 put back. I was told the nhs will only allow one?!
Hopefully this won’t be the case for you. But just thought I will inform you just incase.
I only had 3 embryos so to us 3 embryos = 3 precious chances of pregnancy. I also thought if we transferred one and it didn’t work it may be because the conditions were not right and if we had transferred two then we would risk losing both. We talked it through with our consultant and decided to transfer 1 as that would give us the best chance for one healthy baby. There are also other factors such as age and health of mother, financial and emotional costs on parents of twins and the actual birth (more likely to be C section with twins) which you need to weigh up and also facing the reality of having two transferred and losing one. You also need to think further on if you have twins how will you afford practical things like 2x childcare if you want to work, 2x school uniforms/shoes/trips, 2 at uni at the same time.
A lady I know had 2 transferred and ended up having triplets (1 baby and one set identical twins as one embryo split) So be careful! Talk it through with your clinic and make a decision based on what you feel is right for you.
We transferred 2 every round. The third round both stuck but we had a problematic pregnancy. One twin had severe hydrops and Down syndrome and risked the healthy pregnancy but would have died shortly after or before term as it was not compatible with life
We have one very healthy 2 week old baby boy who we adore but it wasn’t without pure heartbreak and difficult decisions along the way.
I think as long as you are aware of the risks along the way you can make the right decision for you.
We have some frozen embies and am not sure if I would transfer 2 again but that said it’s so expensive and you want to do all you can to maximise the chances of it working.
Thanks very much for your reply. My heart goes out to you for having to deal with such a difficiult situation. It is great you have 1 healthy baby now.
I guess the hydrops and downs are the 2 main risks associated with multiple pregnancies so it is frightening but also useful to hear at this stage. Is it likely major birth defects will show up at the 13 week point or do you know if they can develop later also?
Thanks everyone for all of your comments. Some real food for thought here. And the very best of luck to everyone who is still going through the process.
If we were to transfer 2 embryos would the twins would it likely that the twins would be monochorionic (with a shared placenta) or dichorinic?
We transferred 2 in aug and now I’m 20 weeks with twins there’s risks with everything. I’ve seen so many ladies have complications with a singleton that I haven’t with twins. My friend also transferred two and now have healthy twins at 2 months old. Good luck xx
