Stone cold Doctors in Saigon clinic, Vietnam

My wife is Vietnamese and we decided to do ivf at a clinic in Saigon so she could be close to her family if she did become pregnant. I had to return to the UK before the embryo transfer was done.

Wife was alone for the last two weeks before the blood test and found the time extremely stressful, as did I. She could not confide In her family as it is still considered to be ‘strange’ there. And wished I could be with her to help her through it.

She took the blood test this morning, and she was not pregnant.

She was devasted and very close to tears. She needed support, as she went to clinic alone, but her doctor refused to see her to offer any and another doctor just sarcastically mentioned in passing ‘how unlucky you are!, and try again when you next bleed’.

Disgusting. Just interested in the money and as she wasn’t pregnant the ‘gravy train’ had finished for the time being.

I realise IVF is a gamble but to offer absolutely no support was very stressful for my wife.

It’s not cheaper in Saigon. This was supposed to be a good clinic which is why my wife chose it. In total, have paid around £4500 for one complete cycle.

Still have frozen embryos at this clinic but very reluctant to let my wife take another cycle there due to the stone cold and money grubbing attitude of the doctors.

Apologies for my rant.

Rant away, sorry she was so far away at this difficult time. I want to reassure you that even at fertility clinics here in the UK, many are left with the feeling that they are just another number and that the support with a failed round is not what we always want it. The nurses at my clinic say sorry to hear the news, but otherwise I don’t really get any support. Once you leave the clinic you are on your own, or at least that has been my experience. There are counsellors, I get three appointments included per cycle. For me U didn’t find the two sessions I had helped at all.

Cost wise - my first cycle cost me roughly £8500, I think there in one place in London that charges similar cost to what you have described, sadly not all people qualify to go there.

What I’m really trying to say is that don’t think that your IVF experience would be automatically better in you were here in the UK.

I hope with time you both feel better and ready to explore the next step....
