Male Infertility Test

Hi, I'm currently having fertility tests through my doctor. My partner is wanting to get a semen analysis and we weren't sure if he should go to his doctor or my doctor for this? We both go to different doctors as it's where we've gone since we were children - not sure if that matters. Thank you 😀

I’d suggest that one of you switches doctors so that as partners trying for a baby you are under the same care. It just seemed to make things easier when we needed referrals as a couple for PGD treatment and other things

We have both tried but neither of our practises are taking on patients living in the same area - they've only got room for new people moving into the area. Annoying! xx

Yeah I’d recommend the same as orla above. Only his own doctor can refer him, easier if it’s the same doctor as you. It’ll help the GP and NHS if they know what’s going on with both parties and save you admin and frustration.

Myself and my husband were registered at different gp’s and weren’t able to change for the same reasons as yourself. My husbands gp had to refer him for his initial tests, but once we got to the clinic it was all done through them so it didn’t really matter that we weren’t registered in the same place. You just need to tell the clinic where you are both registered x

My hubby and I are also registered at different doctors. He simply went to his and explained that we were undergoing fertility tests and were being referred but he needed a test doing so that we could be referred properly. His GP doesn’t do tests themselves but just referred him to the right clinic for it doing with no questions asked and then sent his results through to the fertility specialist. It was really easy. The only thing that was confusing was that my hubby got a copy of his results but didn’t have anyone to talk to about it until we actually got to the clinic (only a few weeks later) so we were left deciphering our own results and trying to work out whether they were good or not.

The referral is always done through the woman for IVF or further treatment, it would be useful if he transferred to your doctor but not essential
