Annual storage fees

Hi everyone

Long time since I’ve posted on here so you may not know who I am but just wanted some advice.

My clinic which is private but treats NHS patients and where I was treated as NHS has upped their storage fee from £285 to £350 a year. We’ve got one embryo left.

My question is can they up the price £65 without warning?? I have emailed them but I’m sitting here stewing wondering what to do next

I just got billed £350 for the next year storage of my really crappy quality embryo, I was seething as it’s very poor quality and they have told me it may not survive the thaw, and only the one. I called them and said since it’s just the one embryo and I plan to use it just after Christmas, would they waive the charge, and they agreed. Do you know when you will use it?xx

I’m not sure when we’ll use it or even if we will. We were unexplained so we’ve decided to try naturally before going back down the FET route. This is the final embryo so I’m guessing it’s not as good quality either so my thinking what if it doesn’t thaw or even take. I know we would have those problems anyway I think it’s just the timing of it all.

I think I’m more annoyed at the price hike without any warning xx

I’m pretty sure my storage cost for this year was more than last. Not by quite that much, maybe £300 up to £315. I should’ve questioned it but didn’t as I’d left it right til the last minute to sort it anyway 😔

We were successful on our first round which was under NHS. Not sure whether we will use them or not (assuming if we do, a FET would now be private). We’d always wanted more than one but our relationship has really suffered since baby was born so really don’t know if we will ever have another now.

Yeah that must be difficult when there’s only one as you don’t want to pay that kind of money for a few years only for it not to even get used. So many tough decisions involved in the whole process.

Yeah I don’t mind paying it (well I do but I get why we have to lol) it’s just the amount it’s gone up is a bit shocking I think.

We were successful on first round too but had a miscarriage then had our little girl so I’m thinking the third embryo won’t be great at all although they never mentioned grading. Then obviously it’s the whole cost of going through an FET which we’ll now have to dip into what we saved for the storage.

So hard to make these decisions 😩 xx
