Hashimotos and pregnancy

Hello I am 4 weeks 3 days pregnant. I am worried that my Hashimoto antibodies might lead to miscarriage. Has anyone got any experience or knowledge around this?

Thanks

Hi, firstly congratulations! Was this a natural pregnancy or were you on a treatment cycle? And are you on any thyroid meds? I'm on 50mg levothyroxine (TSH was 4.7 before treatment) and due to positive antibody test I was always given prednisolone (steroid) during treatment and up to 8 weeks if we got a BFP, but there is only very limited evidence, mainly anecdotal, that it makes any difference and lots of clinics don't bother. There will be masses of ladies who have thyroid and autoimmune issues and have no idea about them, and have perfectly healthy pregnancies. It's only once you start treatment and they start testing everything that you find out about these things and then it feels like something needs to be done, when actually it's more than likely it won't affect anything. Won't hurt to ask your clinic / GP if they would recommend steroids at this stage but try not to worry if they say no, I'm sure it will all be fine. Best of luck with your pregnancy x

Thank you so much KW83. This was natural cycle but via iui. I'm 5 weeks today but my gosh does every day feel like an eternity!

That's great that IUI worked for you 🙂 And yes, it's hard for the early weeks but I promise, as you get further along time just goes faster and faster.

Hi Whitney. I'm sure your thyroid function will have been controlled before pregnancy. As long as you have regular checks throughout your pregnancy, hopefully all will be fine. Your first scan is not far off now, so that will reassure you. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you Diane. Yes, controlled prior to pregnancy, it's just those antibodies that scare me! Xx

Hi fellow Hashimoto's friend, are you already on Levothyroxine? Are you under the consultant care, have they already increased your dosage by 25mcg?

Does your GP know you are pregnant and have they arranged for regular every 6-7 blood tests for TSH and T4?

Let me know if you have any questions xxx

Hello, thanks for your reply. My GP is aware and did my bloods which came back TSH 1.3. My GP are pretty rubbish for thyroid testing so I've done medichecks yesterday which I will post when the results come back . I'm on 100 levothyroxine and they have left it as is for the moment. Midwife said she will refer to consultant who will monitor throughout fingers crossed! Xx
