Hi all...first IVF round, 12 egss retrieved, 10 mature, 9 continued to go to day 3 and then suddenly slowed down. Only one reached to early blastocyst on day 5. They did the transfer and the others didnt make it. Im wondering if anyone has had the same experience and can shed some light..

IVF Early Blastocyst transfer
I am so sorry this has happened too you. Unfortunately it is hard to know why it happens and every round is different. We had a male factor and round 1 I only got to day 2 transfer of a poor quality embryo. Round 2 1 blastocyst out of 6 fertilised. Round 3 an morula on day 5 and not great quality. Round 4 day 2 transfer again as only 2 fertilised out of 9. We are now on round 5 and I have had transferred two good quality blastocysts and one frozen.
I guess what I am trying to say is don’t lose faith every round is different. Here if you want to talk sorry for the long message xx
Thankyou...its such a hard process and I'm still getting my head around everything I've put my body through. I keep reading about early blastocysts never really making it and considering that all my other eggs were healthy but didn't make it really makes me worry.
Xx
It’s so hard to see the numbers dropping off as you go through this, you get your hopes up when you get a good number after collection and then there is just nothing they can do to preserve those numbers after that, it’s so frustrating.
We had 5 mature eggs on round 1, 3 fertilised and only 2 made it to day 5. One transferred (didn’t stick) and one frozen.
Second round we had 8 mature eggs but then only 1 fertilised and we had it transferred back one day 3, but again didn’t stick.
We had isci both times and our eggs and sperm are not showing any obvious issues so it’s a mystery as to why our numbers are so crap.
We were sooo disappointed with our second round and couldn't work out why statically we had worse fertilisation/embryo development even though we had more eggs collected. Even the embryologists were shocked and our doctor just said that every round is totally different, sometime you get a bad batch...
I’ve heard that day 3 of development is when the sperm dna kicks in so perhaps there’s something there that might need to be looked at further. Have you had any dna fragmentation tests for example? Also, you can request imsi, if your clinic offers it, which is a more specialised way the lab can analysis the sperm to select the best ones to inject.
Calcium ionophore is something which has been shown (not officially as yet) to help with fertilisation rates so that’s also something we’re considering if we need to do another fresh cycle.
Good luck!!
Hi, I’m sorry that you had such a big loss, and that you only ended up with one. I think that sometimes there is just no definite answer as to why this happens.
I had much the same situation but my issue was at day 1. 10 collected, 9 mature, only 2 fertilised and only 1 made it to day 5. I was distraught, there was no issue with the eggs or the sperm they said and next time it would be ICSI but there was no answer.
In saying that it does only take one and I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant with my 1 survivor so don’t lose faith. Good luck xx
