6 day blastocyst transfer?

Melspels profile image

I wondered if anyone had been successful with a 6 day blastocyst transfer? I have been reading that chances of achieving a pregnancy is half the chance of a 5 day transfer. Just wondered if anyone could share their experience or had any further info on this? Thank you xx

Did you clinic explain why they are doing day 6 ?

I didn't have a day 6 transfer, but I had a day 5 transfer of an early blastocyst (so if they'd waited for it to be a gradable blastocyst, I guess they would have had to transfer on day 6). Looking back, the fact that it was too early to grade on day 5 was a red flag that something was wrong with the embryo's chromosomes. I did get pregnant but had very low HCG levels and when I got a confirmation scan, it was measuring 10 days too small - so basically the slow development that was already showing on day 5 carried on being a problem, and I ended up miscarrying at 8 weeks.

I'm sure there are lots of day 6 transfers that are successful, but certainly in my case, the fact that it hadn't made it to expanded blastocyst stage on day 5 was an early indication that the embryo couldn't make a viable pregnancy. Slow development doesn't necessarily mean something's definitely wrong, but I now feel it's a sign that something may very well be wrong.

As far as Ive been lead to believe there isnt much difference between a 6 day and 5 day blastocyst so try not to worry to much. Im not sure if you have heard of IVF explained on instagram.....I heard the embryologists say it on a Instagram tv post a few weeks back when they talked about PGS. Ive copied the link below, hope it works. Good luck.xx

I’ve heard that they have equal (to a 5 day) chance of success 🙃 I have a 6day blast in the freezer so maybe I’m trying to be positive! Good luck 🤞 x

I haven’t had a day 6 transfer but I do have a day 6 blast in the freezer which had been PGS tested so we know it’s normal. I was told the success rate is the same for that one as my day 5 one ☺️

A little bit slower isn’t always a bad thing xx

Hi Melspels,

I had a day 6 embryo transfer back in march and now I'm 16 weeks along and all going well so far. I don't think there's a difference in day 5 or 6. We transferred our day 5 and didn't take, the day 6 was frozen one that was initially behind the first 2 embryos so they gave it one more day.

Thank you and congratulations! All the best with your pregnancy xx

Hello! I have the same issue and am going to take one of my frozen day 6 blastocysts and wanted to know how it worked out for you? If you want to share, obviously fine if you don't. I don't understand is there is a bad difference x

Hi Sarah, I am in the same position as you and worry sick I am going to waste my time using my day 6s frozen embryos. How did it work out for you in the end if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks

in reply toZessB

I am 15 weeks pregnant with one of my 6 day blastocysts so it worked out perfectly. When they put mine back in it was already starting to hatch so it was ready to implant and apparently that's good so, even though I worried sick, try not to worry! Mine worked out better than my 5 day one! xx

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful news with me. I so needed to read this! Congratulations hun and I wish you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy and beyond with your little bundle of joy x

in reply toZessB

It's ok, after losing a 5 day blastocyst on a unsuccessful transfer I was riddled with worry that it wasn't going to work out for me but really don't, they said on the transfer that 6 day are technically 5 day blastocysts but not from 10am in the morning when they check but later on the 5th day and that isn't a bad thing. I googled everything and freaked out so much before. I am wishing you lots of luck with your little one, everything is crossed xx

Hi SarahIVF,

Congratulations on your wonderful news. I just had my last embryo of 3 transferred last Monday, a day 6 blastocyst, they did assisted hatching and it had fully hatched before they transferred it. Just wondering did you use a home pregnancy test and if so, on which day did you test positive? I'm on day 5 now. Just feeling very bloated and the odd tiny bit of cramps/twinges since Monday, nothing major.

Any help or symptoms you had would be so helpful! I'm driving both myself and the husband mad!! The 2ww gets harder and harder each time.

in reply toAtlanticlady

I was the same, don't worry! I had the bloated tummy (it sounds strange but I couldn't bend it if that makes sense), I had some horrible horrible intense cramping (which I didn't have in a previous non IVF pregnancy so god knows if that was the medication) and constant loo trips, other than that I had nothing.I didn't test until 5 days after the day I was meant to test; it sounds odd but I wanted to enjoy enjoying any feelings of being pregnant and was scared to confront it in case I wasn't. I wouldn't test early incase you get a chemical pregnancy which is the worst... you are technically pregnant now, especially with a hatching embryo, so you are more than likely to get some sort of line but it's waiting for it to keep, if that makes sense. It's the worst wait and I don't pity you for being in it, I never want to do it again, but if it is meant to be it will take... it's out of your control now! I did housework and picked up my heavy 3 year old so you can't do anything, it's upTo baby embryo to do it's work now. I have everything crossed for you!!! ❤️❤️❤️ A hatching embryo is a great sign! xx

Thank you so so much Sarah, that's brilliant to hear. Yeah I feel the same bending down, sort of uncomfortable. That's reassuring to hear! Please God now, you're so rights, it's up to the embryo now to do it's job. Thanks so much for replying and the reassurance. Blood test next Friday so hoping a home Test during the week might show something. I had a fail 2 months ago and got all negative home tests prior to the blood test, which were the same result. I never realised the levels they are hoping for with that first blood test, >150hcg. Fingers crossed it's 3rd time lucky. I do feel the fact that the embryo hatched already is a great sign 🙏🙏🙏

in reply toAtlanticlady

We had a negative before to, I was actually bleeding but had a faint positive line but I knew it was over... it's utterly heartbreaking. You have done everything you can now so enjoy making sure your husband does everything for you. I have everything crossed for your result next week! xx
