So, egg collection is Friday at 8.30am. Nurse said they hope for 6 eggs which doesn’t sound a lot to me really but she said that’s fine. I feel like I haven’t had a very high dose of drugs at all and I’m a bit disappointed. Nevermind.
Anyway, I wanted to ask what I will expect? Dreading the Canula in my hand already 😂 how painful is your tummy after? Will there be any bleeding ? Can you feel much during the procedure?
Thanks very much!

Just wanted to wish you good luck! Mine was done under general so I can’t offer much advice, but you’ll only have a tiny bit of bleeding afterwards and period like cramps. Possibly some bloating!
Good luck for Friday, I didn’t remember any of it about 2 seconds after the canula went in. I had no bleeding and felt fine first the next day but then developed OHSS xx
It started the evening of the day after just a really uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and zero energy, it then started becoming really painful to eat and I was super bloated, we went to see the doctor on day 4 and he said it was OHSS, they collected 34 eggs so I guess it was pretty likely to happen! They froze my embryos and I got better about a week later. Hopefully you won’t get it I’m not sure how common it is xx
I was so worried before mine but honestly it was fine. I had sedation but don’t remember a thing and had very little pain afterwards. About the same as normal period pain for me.
You will be well looked after I’m sure and you’ve got this! Treat yourself to a good book or film after and have a sofa day. I milked mine for all it was worth (chocolate, tea and Netflix) 😂 Good luck lovely xx
Hi, Had mine last week. Within 10 seconds I was out. Next thing I woke up and heard a kind nurse ask how I was feeling. You will be fine. Take care and all the best.
Hi Jaygee. Good luck for EC on Friday! I was really worried beforehand but it turned out to be fine. I think I was pretty much out and remembered very little and had minimal pain (I’d say my period pains are prob worse). I did go on to have some difficulties with OHSS symptoms in the following days, but only on one of my cycles. Take care xxx
Good luck for your egg collection! The canula was the bit I dreaded most as never had a medical procedure but to will honestly be fine, the nurses will look after you impecibally and will constantly monitor you throughout the procedure. All I had was the local anesthesia and the intravenous paracetamol and I was fine. Your adrenaline will be on overtime. I just remember them shouting the numbers out and being totally glued to the screen when the eggs were being extracted it's such an amazing experience. I ended up getting 7 eggs which I was over the moon with as I'm 39 and didn't have high expectations. Remember you only need 1 🙂 You will be a bit tender afterwards and dont be afraid to take cocodamol if you need it. Get plenty of rest aswell. Honestly you will be just fine xx
I’d never had any surgery before my EC and was so nervous, but it was honestly fine. The nurses and surgeon were lovely. I had mine under heavy sedation and don’t remember a thing after the canula going in.
I had a few mild cramps after but nothing painful. Drink plenty of water and spend your afternoon/evening with your feet up, plenty of good snacks and a good box set/Netflix.
Oh good luck to you in tomorrow so I have no advice right now but can let you know. Don’t worry I’m sure we will be just fine as everyone seems so positive below. Thinking of you all
I had a good experience with egg collection. The staff were fantastic. The canula didn’t hurt very much. I had general anaesthetic and went under pretty quickly. When I woke I was in the recovery area, my husband was there I asked what time it was. When he said 11 I asked “in the evening?” because I really felt I’d had an amazing sleep, while I’d actually only been out half an hour and he’d only just returned from doing his bit.
There was a tiny bit of blood on a pad they put under me but that was it. My abdomen was sore and very bloated for a good few days. My tummy felt like I had noro virus - sensitive - though I could happily eat. It was uncomfortable, not overly painful, but you need to rest for a few days.
Hi lovely just wanted to say best of luck on Friday, I'm sure you'll be fine. I've had 2 EC so far and both were different to each other. I had it under sedation (I was awake) and would compare the feeling to a sharp stitch inside. It's not unbearable at all, however my first EC the doc didnt use enough sedation!! 🙈 So the second EC I made sure I was drugged up to the max and dont remember much! Take some relaxing music to play. Other than the cannula (which you'll probably be used to if you've given blood or had a blood test) you wont feel much else. You might feel a bit bruised and sore afterwards but nothing you can't handle after all the injections!
I was super worried about the canula too but I told the anaesthetist and he was so lovely, the other nurse distracted me while he put it in. Took 2 seconds and I barely felt it. Then they gave me the sedative straight away and I woke up 20 mins later, non the wiser... you will be fine! Good luck xx
