Rollercoaster first IVF round and haven't got to EC yet!

Hello, I am desparate for some advice.

I'm currently day 11 of stims in my first IVF round and what an emotional rollercoaster! Firstly the clinic forgot to ring to tell me to up my dose of menopur on day 5. I didn't discover this until I went for my first scan on day 8 and was told I would have to the cancel the cycle due to lack of response. There was lots of follicles (24) but they were all small (5mm). We were completely devastated. Then, after the doctor had reviewed my bloods that afternoon , I got a call saying I could cancel the round there and then or take an increased dose of menopur for 3 days and come back for a scan. I was told at this point that this cycle would likely still end in cancellation. I went for my scan today with no hope to be told I was back on track and I've to come back in on Friday to see if I can go forward with egg collection! I think there were 10 follicles measuring really well and another load just behind.

Now, has anyone been through something like this?? Are the eggs of optimal quality if you were underdosed for a few days? I'm still uncertain if its better to cancel this round and start again knowing what we know now?? Such a a whirlwind and I haven't even got on to the hard stuff yet!!!

Any advice appreciated!

Hey. Sorry this hasn’t happened you must feel so frustrated! I have no experience in this but just some advice. Are you private or NHS funded? Reason for why I ask is because NHS only count a cycle from egg collection so this might impact your thinking if they are. Good luck. Xx

Hello

I am NHS funded and yes they said it wouldn't count towards future cycles if it was abandoned. I just feel like I am in a bit of a grey area, if I go forward will I get the same results compared to if my stimming period had been problem free???

I just don't know. Thanks for responding! How is your tww going?? im keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Oh how frustrating!! I’ve not been through the exact same thing as my clinic seem to put you on a particular dose and stick to it come hell or high water (grrr!!!) but I was on my lowest dose of stims for my first cycle and it took a while to stimulate (about 16 days) and I did go on to get my only bfp that cycle, though sadly had a mmc at 9 weeks. Embryo quality has always been an issue so far for us though.

If some of those smaller follicles have grown enough and depending on your age and diagnosis, I would consider that time can feel extremely precious when you’re on the IVF road and also think about how much planning and emotional energy you have put into this cycle. If it’s all been a breeze and you are young with male factor fertility issues for example then you might decide you’d rather just start again. If not then it sounds like you are in for a good number of eggs (I was told better success rates with 10 or more eggs collected) should you decide to go ahead.

Not an easy decision and I hope your clinic have apologised profusely for the error and the extra stress this has caused!

Wishing you the best of luck 💖 xx

Thanks for getting back to me! I'm 32, OH 37. Our issue is my PCOS causing my ovaries to refusing to ovulate haha. I know that the doctors have a vested interest in successful treatment as the pregnancy rates and birth rates need to be reported to the HFEA. This is my first time so I have no idea what the quality is going to be. They have apologised, I'm just worried that if they are attempting to mollify me because of the error rather than giving me the cold hard facts.

I was just reading about your own journey. My friend now has a daughter via donor egg and donor sperm, due to their circumstances. If you ever want to discuss it I'm sure she would be open to chatting it through with you.

Maybe just be honest with them at the clinic and say you would like the cold hard facts- could be worth a try!

Thank you that is really kind. We’re just starting another fresh cycle with my own eggs, so focussed on that at the moment but I’ll be sure to get in touch if/ when we need to discuss donor. Thank you 😊 xx
