Failed IVF... how long did you wait to try another cycle?

Hi guys,

Hope you’re all doing well.

I have two questions:

1. When did your period come following a negative beta result?

2. How long did you wait to try another cycle? Should we skip a month or two or get right back into it?

Thanks in advance,

Congrats to those with BFP and everyone in the waiting line. Best wishes to those awaiting their miracle.

Hi rella22

Everyone is different but general rule of thumb is 2 menses between cycles. Wishing you all the best and bug hugs x

Thank you Camillage for the advise I was thinking a break would do us good, the clinic is happy to start within 1-3 months. I’m nervous of the outcome being the same and we get nothing to freeze considering we only got 1 fertilized last time.

When we did our first round I hadn't considered that it wouldn't work. I was so shocked. We only got 3 eggs, one fertilised and it was a bfn. It took us about 8 months before we tried again. In the meantime we prepped (we hadn't really done that before). I went to acupuncture, we ate as healthily as we could, severely cut down on alcohol, read books about fertility and by the time we came to second go I felt we were ready.

We have taken time out between each cycle, and each time learned a little more. The time between each, to be fair, has decreased as I became more and more mindful of the clock on the wall. At one point I even went to see a spiritualist!

Some of the tests I had never even heard of, and when I started there was nothing about thrombophilia testing or thyroid level checks. I put myself on baby aspirin as doctors said no reason why it would harm anything.

You really do get to know your own body going through this.

Do take time, relax and de stress as much as you can, and insist that they don't just do the same again. Wishing you all the best - and a lovely summer xx

These are all wonderful advise and is prompting me to do more of my own research and get in tune with my body.

My hubby and I just signed up for a fitness class to try and it healthier together. I gained a few pounds in the last few months from stress and need to knock it off.

I’m interested in trying acupuncture as well to destress prior to starting another cycle.

I’m so excited to see you’re at the end and only a few weeks to go! Congratulations 🎉❤️

Mine started three days after stopping the pessaries.

I came out of a failed FET and was allowed to start right away with another one. I think the clinic would’ve wanted me to wait a month had I had a fresh cycle and short protocol. If you down regulate, I think it would’ve meant yet another month on top.

My period came on my OTD and had BFN on my Fresh transfer that was in April.

I am scheduled for FET today so we waited 2 months to start another cycle. All the best of luck xxx

My period started about 24hours after the pessaries and I waited 2months before attempting a second cycle, that unfortunately wasn’t successful either so another 3months after that I am now currently starting a frozen cycle. There is no time limit on when u should try again just listen to your body and you feelings. Make sure u r strong enough and are comfortable to start your next cycle. I wish you all the luck for when u do try again xx

I got my withdrawal bleed around 4 days after stopping meds. NHS wantedbme to have 2 periods in between after thdt but not sure if that was just their waiting times. A bit of time out does help just even to have a couple of treats before starting again. I always feel better with a plan forward even if I was in between treatments. Hugs, I know how crappy it feels after a failed cycle.xx

Hi Cinderella,

Thank you for the feedback that sounds good to give it time to rest and return to normal world for a little bit.

Sending you lots of well wishes on this cycle for you! ❤️

I had a failed fresh cycle in April, AF started around 7 days after and was very light, then was light again last month. I had my consultant app and was told everyone is different and this is obviously normal for me. We decided to book a holiday for a week abroad, something we haven't done in a long time and take some time to ourselves. Our consultant thought that this was a great idea and said that your body does need time to recover so we are looking to start end of July with meds and possible transfer end Aug/ Sept. I personally wanted to take time out to have some normality, I think that it can become all encompassing. I would encourage you to take some time out before starting again and giving yourself some well deserved TLC. Whatever you decide good look xx

That’s a great advise thank you. We could definitely use a break from all that surrounding ttc. I feel much better this week and able to focus on what I need to do in terms of coping.

Thank you ❤️

Hi Rella

i had the test last week and it came out negative, I was so heartbroken the nurse told me to stop the medication and booked for me counselling and the 1 st follow up appointment. and during the afternoon i gave them a call and 1 of the doctor answer he told me to make another test within 7 days time and fortunately it came out positive.

My period started 2 days after I stopped the drugs.

Our clinic has a policy of not booking follow up appointments within 8 weeks of a failed cycle to give you time to process it. I was so frustrated with this wait at the time but looking back I definitely needed it.

My periods are all over the shop so rather than wait for 2 (which could have taken me 7 weeks or 7 months 🥴) they started me back on meds for a frozen cycle exactly 8 weeks after otd. X
