Just wondering if anyone has had a private referral for a laparoscopy in Northern Ireland? We have been referred today to gynae but have asked for a private referral as this will speed us up by a few months. Did this speed anyone up on the laparoscopy waiting list? Maybe it will make no difference, I don't know!
On the plus side the doc was brilliant and really helpful which has made a huge difference!

I haven’t had this in Northern Ireland, but just had it done last Monday privately.
Just want to say that if you can go private then do it as it can speed up the process.
I had an HSG before I was referred for a laparoscopy to test that my tubes were working (which one wasn’t).
If you have any other questions about the procedure let me know, but sounds like a great step forwards. You don’t want to waste an IVF round if you have a blocked tube or other cysts that need to be removed etc.
Thanks so much for your reply. I've had all other tests completed including an HSG and one part of me says that there may be nothing, yet the other given some symptoms and my mother's history (full hysterectomy at 34 for endo) that this is something I need to know the answer to!
Doc completely agreed and even said that it is easy for the clinic to say just see what happens from the first IVF... It's not their money being wasted. We've gone for a private referral and will see after that.
In an ideal world we would have the procedure done privately and still have time to recover before our first round. X
Sounds like you are doing everything possible. I actually insisted I had an HSG because I had a “gut feeling” and I was right. We know our own bodies and it is great you are pushing for all the right tests before you do your IVF cycle.
This is the way it should be done, but sadly so many clinics are just a money-making machine or the NHS has too little resources so they don’t take an “investigative” approach.
There is an endometriosis uk Facebook group - well worth asking on there as they are always happy to answer questions and they can probably tell you more about which consultants to get with endo specialities XX
I'd also say go private - I was told not to go private and to wait until after an IVF round then have NHS treatment and it's now looking like they are wanting me to have it first after some complications XX
Hi. I am from Northern Ireland. I went privately 2 years ago to see a Gynae via my GP. When I saw the Gynae specialist for the first time he immediately arranged a diagnostic laparoscopy for the following week-so it was all very quick! Obviously going private is expensive, but it certainly avoids waiting. If I hadn't went private, I would have been waiting months according to the Gynae Dr I saw. I hope all goes well for you on your journey and you get the help that you need. Take care. If I can help you any more just PM me. X
Thank you for your reply! Already received a gynae appointment privately for next week which is so brilliant. I'll go talk to him as an expert and take it from there.
2 years ttc and I honestly feel like secondary fertility (my husband) shouldn't make it this difficult. We've been referred for ICSI because of it but our consultant said if we haven't conceived by now then our chances of conceiving naturally are extremely low. Although I know in comparison to others I know we are very lucky.
I just find it hard to accept that a slightly low sperm count would mean IVF is our only chance... Surely people do conceive naturally with less odds?
Who knows... Think I'm just having another rant! Lol
