Mitochondrial replacement therapy

Hi all. I was offered mitochondrial donation instead of IVF with donor eggs. Has anyone done this? As far as I understand it's a way to improve egg quality and to have a genetically related baby. Sounds great but I'm trying to understand what to expect. Does anyone know what are the chances?

Hi. I've done this. I'm not aware of statistics but my attempt was positive. The first attempt was bfn but the 2nd one worked out. As far as I was explained, mitochondria make our cells be more energetic which is necessary for its functioning. It helps in case of low AMH and if you had many unsuccessful IVF cycles in the past.

Where did you hear about this therapy, it is rather new and not spread out yet?

Hi AvaEva, I know this was 2 yrs ago,so you were a pioneer! gosh I’ve only just heard of this now, and it seems a few clinics offer it abroad... I’d love to chat to you further and find out which clinic you used. Please could you share your experience. Ta!

Hello,I know this post is 5 years old and I hope you don't mind me contacting you.

I wondered if you may have some time to write to me privately and share the procedure and more in regards to microcondrial ivf. I just wanted to know more about it, as we are nearing the time of perhaps doing this.

Did you use your own eggs?

I really hope to hear from you. We lost our beloved, beautiful 23 mth old son in August 2023 and my heart is absolutely broken 💔

Thank you

Thanks Diane. But I don't have any mitochondrial disease. I'm healthy but because of the age my eggs are way too 'old'. A clinic I deal with offered to replace my mitochondria with donor's healthy ones. The more energy an oocyte gets the better it becomes. This is how I understand that.

Hi marzila. If it's the way you want to go then seek a consultant with a specialist. I believe it is done in Newcastle. Perhaps speak with your GP and see whether he/she can find someone for you to see. Good luck! Diane

Hi, i have been reading about this and wandered if it would be worth a try. I am in the same position as you, i am healthy but my eggs are too old. Would you recommend your clinic?

Just skimming through that link it’s done at Newcastle centre of life.

Hi there. I have heard about mitochondrial donation as well. Unfortunately, my contract has already been signed so I lost my chance to try it. Anyway, it often happens that new methods are worth our attention and may help.

Hello everybody :) I am new here and I'd like to ask you a piece of advice. I'm currently thinking about mitochondrial donation abroad. What countries would you recommend? I've heard that Georgia, Czech Republic and Ukraine are quite good at it. I would be graceful if you could help me!

hey there! I have heard about mitochondrial donation while undergoing my treatment at BTC, Ukraine. But I don't know much about that since we used DE. Hope it will help you somehow. x

Hi,I know your post is 5 years old. I wondered if you did go through this treatment?

We are in the final stages of deciding whether to ho ahead or not. It is probably our last chance of having a baby with our eggs.

Thank you and feedback.
