Conflicting advice for IVF

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else feels like they are surrrounded by conflicting advice on what do, eat, think, feel, drink etc during IVF treatment. I am being driven mad by overthinking and worrying that I'm not doing the right things. I feel like I'm filling my head with worries. As the saying goes.... if you fill your head full of worries, there's no room for the good stuff.

Xx

Hi, totally know what you mean. I was MENTAL with it all in my first round, worrying about this that and the other, and even worse after ET and having to have pineapple, 2 Brazil nuts a day, McDonalds on the way home etc. BFN

My second cycle I totally chilled out about it all. I limited caffeine to 1 large tea a day, I made sure I ate LOADS of green veg but that's about it. I even had the odd glass of wine as my consultant said it was fine. I had a much better cycle with more eggs and more embryos. Post ET all I did was drink pomegranate juice daily. We got our BFP and made it to 9 weeks but sadly had a MC.

I am SURE the added stress of worrying about food and drink made a negative impact on my first cycle and I am CONVINCED chilling about everything helped my second. Obviously once I knew I was pregnant I was careful with no salami etc but until then I would just do what makes you happy. Good luck xx

There is so much conflicting advice out there - and sometimes it's hard to tell what is based on evidence and what's not. I don't know whether you saw in the news recently the survey which showed most people were confused about fertility information, and found it hard to tell when information is commercial or promotional.

That's why the professionals and patients are organising an evidence-based non-commercial fertility information day at the end of the month - to try to help people who want to find out what's based on evidence and what's not!

Grace Dugdale, a reproductive biologist and nutrition scientist, will be speaking about nutrition on the day - you can see more about it here rcog.org.uk/en/departmental...

It’s a mind field isn’t it! This was my first cycle and as much as I wanted to do everything I could possibly do to increase my chances of a success I also didn’t want to get myself worked up by every little thing I was eating. Obviously everyone is different but as well as giving up alcohol I restricted myself to one caffeinated drink a day and then just tried to eat relatively healthy and include protein. Still enjoyed my chocolate!! I took a pre conception multi vitamin and omega 3 and that’s it. We got our bfp earlier this month.

Over my 7 cycles I tried everything going and at the beginning really stressed. Eventually I decided that although I'm sure stuff can help at the end of the day you can't really control what's happening and nature has to do its part. In my last cycle i was just alcohol and caffeine free and varied healthy diet and got BFP. Try not to worry x x
