One precious embryo

Hello everyone

So our exciting news from the clinic is that we have one precious embryo. From the 3 eggs collected only 2 were suitable for ICSI and of these only one fertilised.

Last year the embryologist told me that only a 1/3 of embryos make it to blastocyst stage. So we are transferring at d3 instead of d5. Even though d5 blastocysts have better chance of implanting with only one embryo the advice is d3. We are in shock but excited. Transfer will be on Monday.

My body hasn’t coped well with any procedures other than those done under sedation. So I have to prep for transfer to be under sedation. They will try without sedation first but at least I’ll be fasted if we need to resort to sedation. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

I’ll have acupuncture before & after transfer too!

Anything I should know or be doing on lead up and after transfer?

Xx

That's great news, so pleased for u. Hopefully u'll not need to be sedated. My only advice is try ur best to relax and enjoy, we really are pregnant until proven otherwise and I think that's a good way of thinking about it, so stay positive 😊all the best for Monday xox

I had to prep for sedation too but I got away with getting a buscopan injection in my bum which helps to relax muscles. Best of luck for transfer, everything crossed for you!xx

Great, they’ve not mentioned that option but let’s hope I manage without sedation! Thanks Xx

Yes, you got one, that’s great news!

I was also told that D3 or D2 transfers are the best when we have only 1 or even 2 embryos, so it looks like you are on the right path!

Transfer is not too painful as I imagined, despite me always asking for sedation, the last transfer I had went smooth. I only had to take a valium tab before it and go with full bladder (which can give a bit of discomfort).

Good luck!!

If you can manage then don't go with the sedation. Transfer is not painful at all and it's incredible experience as you can see on the screen what's happening and when the little one is popping up into your tummy. It's so beautiful and incredible to see your little embie for the very first time (you will see the little spark of a flash) ! Good luck and be brave- you won't regret it!!!

My mantra all the way from the beginning is ‘one is the magic number’. It is a numbers game though isn’t it. I really hope this is our ‘one’. Xx

I love your mantra!!! I really believe in positivity... so please keep repeating that mantra to yourself!

I had a fresh day 2 transfer 1st round (it was our only surviving embryo from 9 eggs collected) and we got our first ever BFP... sadly ended in early miscarriage.

Second round we had frozen day 2 transfer (as only 2 embryos from 9 eggs collected again), transferred both, and currently 16 wks pregnant with one beautiful little frostie. So day 2/ day 3 transfers really can work!

Really really wishing you all the luck in the world! X

Awh that is so amazing, congratulations. I’ve been a bit numb through this cycle, I guess it’s a bit of self preservation. I can’t quite compute that we have one embryo, still a way to go but your story gives me hope! Xx

I hoped it would give hope xxx

I know what you mean about feeling numb though....i was the same (still am a little... still doesn't seem real)...i think it's totally normal. Just try and keep positive... don't worry about anyone/ anything else... just be kind to yourself xx

We only had one and I'll be 31 weeks on Monday :). Try to relax and focus on the screen. It's a bit like having a smear test done. Wear comfy clothes, eat something salty afterwards and drink pomegranate juice or have some beetroot as they're good for implantation. I would also have a nap and take things easy- gentle walks. Good luck- wishing you baby dust all the way xx
