So..

21 collected

20 mature

17 fertilised

Skip to day 4 and we have 14 that are either compacted or starting to transition into blastocyst stage which is fantastic!

The other 3 are lagging behind a bit however they are going to give all those that aren't ready to freeze tomorrow until Friday due to the quantity as it is worth the risk.

However, I wanted to ask a question about whether anyone has donated blastocysts before and whether this is possible? If we have enough to do so I feel this would be nice for people with both fertility factors impaired.

Hey, hope you're OK and feeling better after EC. I'm still a bit generally wiped out, so taking quite a bit of time to rest hence trawling through this forum and noticed no one had responded to you. I'm sure you will be able to donate embryos that you do not need for yourselves - our clinic discussed it with us when we signed all our consent forms, and we gave permission for our embryos to be donated if both of us died (bit morbid but it would seem a shame for them to go to waste!). They said that at any point once we had embryos frozen we would be able to give consent for them to be released for donation, although obviously that consent has to come from both sides independently and I think they said there was a mandatory 'cooling off' period before they would be used in case you changed your mind. Definitely ask your clinic about it, I am sure they will be happy to discuss.

Thanks lovely! Yeah I felt a bit rough for a couple days - mainly pressure in my ovaries! Then had trip in an ambulance Tuesday as I over did it and ruptured a few cysts (Oops!) Was very painful. Clinic rang today which is day 5, so far they have frozen 8 and they are carrying over another 7 till tomorrow as 5 of them were only a tiny bit behind and think they will be able to freeze them tomorrow and the other 3 are a little bit further behind but they didn't want to write them off just yet. If just like to help others if I have the ability too x

Glad you're on the mend now - sound like you've been through the mill a bit! That's fantastic news to have so many for the freezer, really happy for you and I hope you get to a transfer really soon x

Sorry you have to wait 12 weeks - that's rubbish. Hopefully it'll go quite quickly for you. I have a transfer booked for Saturday morning - they are day 3 today and we've got 4 really good ones, and 3 that are a little behind but still 6 cells so may catch up. Got everything crossed we'll still have at least one good one on Saturday morning and if we have any to freeze that'll be a bonus x

Yeah they said some of mine were behind but they caught up and we've got 8 frozen. Decided not to freeze the rest as they said they didn't think they would survive thawing but 8 is enough. This round is am NHS cycle so we can only have 4 transfers anyway and hopefully one of them will work now that I'll be on crack on and progesterone during the first 13 weeks. Good luck for your transfer! Yeah it's a bit gutting that we can't have transfer sooner and have to wait again but I understand why. My next appointment is the 28th of Feb and I'll get the provera then to start AF and then go from there. Think it's day 21 of your cycle you have the injection to switch of your body and then start oestrogen and I'm not exactly sure when the transfer is done

That's all sounding very promising!! I think if you freeze them and dont need them there is an option to donate them instead of destroying them it might depend on your clinic. What a lovely and very kind idea!!xx

Thank you, yeah the only think that could effect it is pcos can be hereditary so I think they're a bit more specific with their criteria x

Hi

Congratulations! They are amazing numbers, so well done! :)

I think that is a lovely idea to donate, there are many of us on here considering the donor route and it’s people like you we rely on. Such an amazing thing to do. Don’t you want to keep some frozen for yourself though? You might want a sibling at some stage?

Good luck Xx

I've thought about this and I think we've decided that if we want to expand and have another then we would be happy to use the egg donation IVF scheme also. Not only does it lower the cost of our IVF, it also helps others. I know egg donation is important, however I didn't know about already fertilised blastocysts. Of course this is a little more specific for who they would be given too
