Success rates with grade B embryos?

Hi ladies,

Loving all the positive news on here recently but also sending baby dust to those who haven’t received what they were hoping for- I’ve definitely been there(!) stay strong.

We had two failed cycles with our best A grade embryos (I believe to clinic incompetence and not the rights meds)

We are now left with B grade embryos (haven’t been told any other grade types or numbers)

We will be transferring two this time. I know that embryo quality doesn’t always mean thatchances are reduced unless it’s very poor but I just wondered how many of those who were successful had B embryos?

As recent posts have been A/AA embryos etc

Guess I’m looking for some reassurance even though I know what the medical books say!

Thanks in advance

P.s has anyone had embryo glue and found it helped/worked? I know it’s difficult to know but just wondered if it had made a significant difference to anyone. I don’t think there’s any risks to having it done so worth a shot?

Can I ask if you used embryo glue or any other additional treatment ?

Ah thanks great to hear!

We’re having transfer on Thursday so can’t do scratch now but we did add in emrbyo glue again last minute. I had it on both other cycles so I thought I would try and keep it consistent !

Congratulations again

Looking really positive. Be positive. My A grade embryo failed but that was without the steriods and clexane. Our last 2 embryos were A and B I think. Plenty of people on here with a bfp. Fingers crossed x

Absolutely- thanks 🙂

feeling really good yday and today and my health seems brilliant too- I’m sure the steroids and aspirin have a lot to do with it!

I’ve been overdosing on the thyroxine though- had medichecks results today- but at least it didn’t skyrocket like last ivf!

However my ferritin has jumped up to 90! Yay finally. No wonder i feel better.

So all in all I’m happy and know that I’ve tried my best for now. Just got to eat and drink Well!

My ferritin was 50, my TSH 0.6, T4 19, and way over on folic acid I think it was. At least TSH is still ok. How did you get your iron up? I take pregnacare, vit D and used to take a vitabiotics B tablet but I think it also contained folic acid? You're doing all the right things. I nearly caved in an bought a HPT today, but changed my mind. My whole body aches... sign of my age I guess. Relax, get the Pom juice in :) x

Hi Saya my first ivf I had blastocyst and morula but no glue ...nothing to freeze and we had bfn. My second one we had two (don’t remember exactly) I know was A grade so embryologist recommend to just put one in and the other we freeze. But we did use embryo glue . My baby is 18 months old . Finger crossed for u Hun x

Thank you for your reply.

And congratulations !

It can vary so much and it sure does boil down to sheer luck sometimes (!) at least we all have a chance at least 🙂

We put in 4ab and 4bc together and one has stuck but obvs don't know which!!

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply toMissSaoPaulo

Ooh that’s interesting!

I know some clinics don’t advise different grade embryos together.

I’m rooting for the underdog! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Either way I wish you and your pregnancy well x

Yeah, I read about that about 2 days after transfer it freaked me out a bit!! but both had survived freezing and thawing and continued to divide so they must have been pretty tough.

I do see a clear difference in the pics of mine and some I've seen on here which look like works of art!! Mine are all blobby and uneven!!

Best of luck with your transfer hon. There's still plenty of hope!! Are you going with a different clinic?

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply toMissSaoPaulo

I feel the same way about the recent embryo pics !

Not sure if paid all that attention to it but the first a grade one did look similar.

I was worried about egg quality before my fresh cycle but I got such a good number of eggs and so many fertilised and reached blastocyst at A/B grade that I'm comforting myself it can't have been that bad and they must be fighters !

We didn't change clinic this time as the new consultant was brilliant with his treatment plan but unfortunately he left!

Luckily they're following his plan and notes and I've got all bases covered so to speak so will see how it goes.

Not sure what else we can do thereafter if it doesn't work -

Thank you for your kind words and wishes

My clinic do not grade the embryos so I have no idea. They say that they are either good enough or not - which is fair enough. I am now 10+4. However I did read an article recently about a clinic in America who are starting to use embryos they previously would have discarded and they are getting slightlt better results to previous, only the women have of course more chances as less eggs are discarded. Interesting but both approaches seem to be similar, it means nobody is hung up on the grading, maybe more relaxed. But there are so many amazing changes even hour to hour at that early stage - who's to say in the future we may grade completely differently to how we do now.

Good luck xx

Absolutely - so much we don't know about the miracle of life!

Am grateful things like IVF are even available to us although sometimes I feel like we don't fully understand what we're dealing with yet.

I have heard quite a few success stories in the past with lesser grade embryos but with the recent flurry of top grade embryos and BFPs I was wondering what people's experiences were.

Reassuring there are still many who had BFPs with b/c grade.

Congratulations on your pregnancy - hope your first trimester is going swimmingly

I’m now approaching 10 weeks with a 3BB. I remember crying thinking it was such bad quality but just shows they will snuggle in if they want to!x

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply toReb990

Congratulations !

I think a BB is close enough to an A to warrant a good chance anyway!

As camillage said above they are either viable to transfer or not. A few cell differences at this stage may not matter and may actually allow the embryo to implant before fully developing - who knows (!)

Lovely to hear success stories all round and I'll try not to mourn my previous embryos during this transfer 😊

Hi saya85 don't worry my 1st pregnancy was with c grade embro

Saya85 in reply toDaddu1

Aww congratulations !

Thank you for your reply - with all the above I am definitely feeling more reassured !

If it's meant to be they will fight their way in there and snuggle in

Thanks again

Yes exactly 😊

My BFP was with 2 BC grade blastos. We just have one healthy growing baby now (just had our 12 week scan!!), so we are overjoyed, as we were also worried that we didn't have AAs.

On the glue question- I found all the optional extras really intimidating - the HFEA who are a neutral regulator have rated all of them according to study data here if that helps- they have a traffic light system so you can get a feel for which ones may help, and which are just a waste of money/inconclusive data:

hfea.gov.uk/treatments/expl...

Best of luck to you!!!!! xxxx

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply to

THank you very much!

Il check the link- I think I went with the glue because it seemed the less invasive/costly and sounded better 🤣

Now I’m just doing it to try and keep things consistent and to avoid regretting it.

We are putting two in this time too. My cousins wife who is older did so too and got twins after a bfn previously.

I'm under 35 so aware of risks but hoping at least one attaches

Congratulations on your BFp and baby!

Hi. I know this is an old post but do you mind me asking how old you were when you did the egg retrieval? My last double transfer I got pregnant but had a missed miscarriage at 8w 1d. I have 5 day 5 blastocysts left frozen but they are not such good quality apart from one. My clinic also uses pluses and minuses with a and bs.

My son came from my last cycle 4th and lowest quality egg. I didn't hold much hope as why would the worst one work. It did. A lower quality egg if it's got the right chromosome balance is perfect. Good luck x x

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply to

That’s very reassuring- and you’re right- if it’s viable it will work- a lower quality just means it’s not as developed.. yET! It still has a lot of growing to do

Congratulations on your son 😊

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Hope all goes smoothly

I really want to know the full grade of our embryos but the clinic are so coy around it. Will ask tomorrow

You’re on the home stretch! Congratulations

in reply toSaya85

Thank you! My clinic (NHS) were not upfront about the grades until I asked. The important thing is that they survived thawing and had "expanded" which meant it was alive. They change so much. You have every chance still like the other ladies have said on here. There have been 5AA embryos that haven't worked out! Trust one of those embryos is your baby : ) xx

Ive been on here sometime as you know Saya and Ive seen lots of ladies had success with B grades and this is sometimes after failure with A grades. Heck Ive had failure with hatching and fully hatched blastocysts! As our old NHS embryologist says, its only an educated guess as to which embryos will stick and which ones dont. He said he's seen babies born that were very poorly graded embryos. Very frustrating but whilst we have embryos we still have a chance!!xx

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply toCinderella5

Thanks Cinderella! Funnily enough I just wrote virtually the same thing as a reply to someone else.

Sometimes it is just a guessing game. Not even the most fertile and healthy couple will get pregnant every time!

But I'm glad to get your reassurance considering how long you've been on here.😊

Feeling positive for tomorrow
