My mum has very kindly offered to fund a private go of ICSI IVF due to the long waiting list here..but if it was unsuccessful could we then use our NHS funded go at a later date?

Hi, I don’t know about Northern Ireland. NHS doesn’t fund any IVF cycles, or if stopped doing do a few years ago. It is still being debated about whether they will reintroduce it - but our NHS nurse said if we go private now and then the NHS starts funding IVF again we won’t be eligible because we opted for private - basically if they think you can afford it then leave you to pay. Quite awful actually. Hope someone can give you a better answer about NI! Good luck xx

Hi there, I live in Northern Ireland too. Like you, we had a private cycle of IVF with ICSI whilst we were on the waiting list for the Royal. It doesn’t effect your eligibility for NHS treatment in any way. We had our first private cycle in September and we got called for our NHS cycle the following March I think.

If you want to private message me here feel free to do so. Let me know if I can help in any way xx

Hi, I am in NI too and asked this same question when I was going through treatment a couple of years ago. We paid for private due to the long waiting time for NHS treatment. We were blessed with a BFP after our private round and a week or two later a letter arrived from RFC at the royal inviting me for an appointment to discuss my NHS round. I contacted them and told them I was pregnant from a private round and would no longer need the appointment and they told me should my pregnancy be found to not be viable after the 7 week scan then to contact them and they will give me another appointment. Thankfully I didn't need to contact them again. Good luck with your treatment xx

I know this is a older post but does anyone know if this is still the case. Can you stay on the NHS list whilst going for a private round?
