Can I ask if anyone knows! If you go private for a round of private IVF are you still eligible for IVF on the nhs?

Can you still have nhs IVF if you go private
It depends
Where I am you are allowed 2 nhs rounds
But if say for example I had one privet round I would still qualify for 2 nhs
But if I had 2 privet I would only qualify for 1 nhs round.
And if I self funded 3 rounds then I wouldn’t be entitled to any nhs
It can be confusing as nhs funding differs with your postcode unfortunately as some places offer 3 nhs rounds and others 2 or 1 rounds
My ccg will cancel each nhs round with each private round you have. Not too sure if this is the case for all nhs ccg’s though.
Mine too - we’re lucky enough to be in a 3 rounds CCG but if you’d had a private cycle they’d count that as 1 of your 3 goes
We had a private round where I got pregnant but lost the baby at 14 weeks. Because it wasn't a successful pregnancy we qualified for our 1 nhs round still.
Agree with other comments - 99% of NHS trusts deduct any private cycles from your NHS ones
I don't know if this helps, but I had my NHS funded round at a private hospital. If you have a hospital in mind you can ask them if they accept the NHS funding. If they do then you need to be referred to them. Might not help if you want to do a private round while you wait for your NHS round though, but it is good to know! Good luck.
Mine would not, but all seems postcode lottery
Hi,
In the area we live the CCG only fund 1 NHS round. We paid privately for our first round and we have still had one round of NHS funding. Our NHS funding includes 2 FET's and although we only produced 1 blastocyst on the NHS funded round they have agreed to use a a blastocyst from our privately funded round.
Sounds like it depends on where you live. Xx
Hi, I think it does depend on the area you live. In my area we're only entitled to one cycle. My NHS consultant said that currently, we could still have our NHS cycle if we chose to do a private one beforehand. But he said that they are looking to change the policy so that may no longer apply by the time we're entitled to our NHS cycle.
Definitely check with your CCG. The rules can differ a lot, you don’t want to end up losing a free round as a result of having a private round!
