Unexplained: Any ladies with... - Fertility Network UK
Unexplained
I have not had the test. Some have and some haven't. The jury is still out but some people swear by it. I read an article that it changes all the time and in fact there is a theory that it changes especially during the fertilisation process onwards. So for me I decided not yet. Hopefully some others will give real life experiences of it. X
My journey is different as I had blocked/damaged tubes until they were clipped so no advice I'm afriad. Xx
Have you had a laparoscopy to rule endometriosis out?
The reason I ask is I had unexplained infertility for 5 years and 10 months of TTC, until I was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis. It does not show on an ultrasound unless you have to chocolate endo cysts which I didn’t.
For us it was the only issue causing the infertility. I am 9 weeks pregnant after my third lap & a round of clomid ( my endo grew worse after my chemical pregnancy)
I have also had the nk cell test 2 years ago ( before my endometriosis diagnosis & when we were looking for answers) i had the blood test, my cells were slightly it was raised at 12%( under 10% is normal) & I wanted to get it treated. My fertility doctor preferred the biopsy test & only agreed to giving me prednisone during pregnancy ( the first 12 weeks) & I remember feeling upset he wouldn’t prescribe them whilst I tried ( at the tine I thought that was “our reason” I later learned it was endometriosis)
It is a private test you will have to pay to be done. If you are going down this path it is advisable to ask your specialist which test they prefer-the blood test or the biopsy. Lots of ladies here have their nk cells tested at Coventry under Professor Quenby & it’s around the £500 mark. I’ve seen other ladies use prednisone alongside treatment & get their BFP. It is worth looking into.
Unexplained infertility is very frustrating & I hope you get some answers for it . xoxo
Thanks hun, I have been looking into the Nk celltest to be honest, as for speaking to my specialist I’m not really sure what to do, as my partner has a daughter I’ve basically been told I need ivf as some reason it ent happening ok it’s own and because nhs won’t pay I’ve been sort of left out in the cold x
As jess says you should still be allowed an exploratory lap on the nhs to check for endo- they might say you have no symptoms but it can be a silent disease and infertility is a symptom.
I have one daughter and for second have been trying for theee years. nHS offered 4 IUIs and other detail test which I had. All test were fine IUI failed than went for IVF twice had one miscarriage at 9 th week. Now have found high TNF alpha, will start medicine. This is going to be our last try. I think it’s worth going for all other tests with nhs and IUIs andthanfor nk test. As these tests are expensive if done privately. Wish you all the best.
