Chances?

Hello.A few days ago I had a consultation & was told I have a 6 to 8% chance of success with IVF. I have decided to go ahead but am wondering if other ladies have gone ahead with such a low percentage? Thank you for any advice

I was told I had a 5% chance on my last cycle but wanted one more go with my eggs. I'm now pregnant following a donor cycle.

I think you need to do what feels right for you. I couldn't have moved on to donor until I felt that I had tried properly with my own eggs.

Congratulations Mantaray, & thank you for your advice. I feel too that I have to at least give it a go with my own eggs. If I'm unsuccessful, then trying with donor eggs is something to consider x

I was given a 10% chance, which came as a huge blow to myself and my husband as we hadn’t quite thought things could be that bad fertility- wise, we had been trying to conceive for around 18 months at that point. I am 35 (almost 36) and I have low AMH (5) and high FSH (24). We went ahead as we felt we needed to give it a shot and not waste any more time. I am now 13 weeks pregnant after our first round. I only had 4 follicles and they only managed to collect 1 egg, but it fertilised and implanted and here I am!!

I don’t think you ever really know what your chances are/what you are dealin with until you give it a go, so definitely worth a shot

Thanks PabloVA, many congratulations. I'm looking forward to getting on with trying but also very apprehensive about the low percentage. I hope I will be lucky x

Thank you. I know how lucky we are to be in this position. It is hard to remain positive when you are given low numbers, it definitely took me some time to get my head around it all (a good couple of months before we started the process), but in the end I just tried my best to remain positive but realistic and it somehow got me through.

Best of luck to you xx

Thank you Wishfully. I appreciate that. I'm glad I have found this forum as IVF is all new to me so it is helpful to read of other women's experiences x

I had an 17.5% chance with my third round of ivf and it worked. Someone has to be lucky. But mine was funded- if we go again, chances will be lower and it won’t be funded so I’m not sure we would think it worth the money for the low chance.

Congratulations Lizzie. Mine is self funded so I am hoping so much that I will be lucky x

We had a 45% chance and it didn't work! I don't think they know the chances for sure! X

Thanks EB2001. It sounds like it is such a lottery. I wish you lots of luck & best wishes if you are trying again x

Thanks Assante - wishing you luck too.

I am 17 weeks pregnant naturally! So a lottery it indeed is!

Hope you get success soon. Xxx

That's fantastic news EB2001. Many congratulations xx

I don’t think anyone can actually predict chances of IVF without going through a round. It’s the real test of your ovaries and how they will respond to treatment. We were told 10% at best given my initial test results. These did improve on another test so guess so did our chances maybe a little? I’m 12 weeks pregnant from the second transfer of that first round. Don’t loose hope, in it to win it and all that xx

Congratulations LittleBlue34. Thank you for your words. I felt crushed when I was told my chances were so small. It sounds like ladies are having varying degrees of success xx
