Has anyone got any stories about your experience with the Liverpool Womens hospital please? And also NHS funding?
We have heard a lot of stories about how unsuccessful liverpool can be and a few people has mentioned the IVI clinic in Madrid. Apparently they have a very high success rate.
Back to our current progress, my partner has to have an operation to see if the can retrive sperm through a biopsy, but we are still under the investigation process! I have been told we could potentially be stuff in the investigation for month and have to go through hurdles.
Hope someone can help.

I’ve had my first successful ivf cycle at Liverpool Women’s. Staff been great, my cycle was private as my bmi was too high plus my partner already had a child with a previous partner. I would highly recommend Liverpool women’s to anyone. Can’t fault the service. Wish u luck x
Thank you very much for your reply. And congratulations with your success.
My partner results said that he had azoospermia and that his gandotropin stated that he has moderate testicular failure. Not really sure what this means.
Yep i had 2 rounds of ICSI at the Womens due to partner having azoospermia. We got sperm from Microtese op at Aintree hospital. But both rounds of ICSI were unsuccessful. I couldn't fault the Womens either. Amazing hospital and took care of us every step of the way. Its amazing how caring the staff are. We didnt get funding as i have a son from a previous relationship so we paid privately X
Yes i drove to Womens with the sample. Took 6 months to get a date for the op. Ive filled in so many forms i cant remember and no they didn't check my finances x
How did you get on? My husband and I are in the same situation, except to speed up the process a bit we got all the tests done privately (cost about £1000) and got the private urologist to write a letter to our gp to be referred directly to an nhs fertility clinic. We had our first appointment with an nhs consultant yesterday and because we’ve had all the tests done he’s referred us to the IVF clinic but we’ve asked him to put us forward for nhs funding to have ivf at a private clinic. I’m not hopeful as we’ve been given like a 10% chance of them finding any sperm but st least then we can move on and consider adoption etc if or when we are ready xx
The surgical sperm retrieval itself was just under £3000, so expensive. If you’ve already started with the NHS then I’d ask them what their waiting list for the op is and ask to get on it as soon as you can. I’ve seen other ladies say that the wait was only 4-6 months in some areas which isn’t long in IVF time.
Our retrieval was unsuccessful but we had a lot of warning signs that it would be that way because of the genetic results. A random chromosome issue that they found with the genetic tests meant he has never produced sperm.
We had no choice but to go for donor sperm which was a difficult decision and 18 months later we’re just about to start our first treatment.
I think on the whole though the op has quite high success rates and they can usually find sperm to freeze.
It’s a really tough thing to go through for your OH so expect a few down days along the way.
