The numbers are in: fertilisation update

Just had the dreaded call and my hands are still shaking whilst I type this message. 5 our of 7 fertilised and we are booked in for 5 day transfer on Monday. I was really excited at this stage last cycle but not this time after our cancelled transfer last cycle. I know a lot can change between now Monday. I asked if a 3 day transfer might happen but was told they only really do 5 day transfers these days. I am going to be on tenterhooks until 10:30 on Monday 😬 got everything crossed and double crossed!

Good numbers, another pat on the back! I know what you mean about the 3 day transfer. So I had the same thoughts that on my last cycle that I could maybe have a 3 days transfer if my embryos werent doing so well but I only suggested this last minute on my day 3 update. Could you ring the hospital back and ask them due to your last cycle whether they would considering doing a day 3 transfer depending on what they look like then, if for instance you only have one or two promising ones at that stage? I had a bit of an argument that due to my previous history that they should have considered this but by the time I suggested it, it was too late to set up apparently and they agreed that in hindsight it may have been something that they thought about! Not trying to worry you but its a little regret of mine and something I think my clinic should have been prepared for.xx

That’s a good idea. I suggested it yesterday after EC to the nurse but she just said what I was told this morning too. It was this same clinic where I had the three day transfer on my first cycle this time last year so I don’t know whether they have maybe changed their protocols or something or maybe it was because I only had two fertilised on cycle one 🤔 so confusing. Part of me wonders though if they don’t make it to day 5 then maybe they wouldn’t make it anyway 😥

Yes I think if you only have 1 or 2 fertilise then they opt for a 3 day transfer. You could be right about the thing of if they dont get to day 5 or arent great quality then they maybe wouldnt make it. I would have rather have had the option last OE cycle as we had 2 good ones on day 3 but only one really good one by day 5, the other had fallen behind......perhaps me clutching at straws right enough! Ha ha ha xx

I don’t think so! A lot of people do say better in that out! It’s the not knowing that is so hard. I wish they could just tell you one way or another what is best for you rather than taking a one size fits all approach. I don’t even know if they’ll give me any call backs to day how things are progressing. When I asked if I’d hear anything the lady was very non committal and say maybe which means if I don’t hear anything I will be in bits in the waiting room on Monday!

That's how I felt after having a previous cycle where none survived to day 5. However lets hope it doesnt come to that! Come on little ones....grow, grow!!xx

I called up clinic and the nurse who got back to me was lovely. She went up to the lab to speak to them too and tell them my concerns. She said that the lab seem to think that they are all looking good. They will review them on day three just in case and has given me the extension number for the lab so I can always phone them on Saturday if I’m worried. Apparently the clinic has been doing day 5 only transfers since Christmas as recent research shows that there’s more chance of successful outcome. Feel a bit better now but still anxious (as ever) xxx

That's great news Ash! Its so nice that you got someone helpful....sometimes that phone call for reassurance is all that we need, even if we are still nervous in the background! Good luck sweets!xx
