Embryo numbers....

Hi ladies

So Sunday 🤞🤞 is the transfer day please God. The Embryologist called just now to say out of 7 fertilised, 2 have slowed down and 5 are developing nicely. She doesn't expect all 5 to make it to blastocyst and expects 1 - 2 to make it. I was quite surprised and am now disappointed. Out of 20 collected, it just seems like such a small number.

With my last cycle, 6 were good enough (1 fresh transfer and the rest frozen).

I know it only takes 1 but if I don't have any left to freeze, it just seems like such a waste, especially because this was our 1st self funded cycle.

What were all your numbers like?

We only had four eggs collected and one fertilised. My one embryo was transferred yesterday. I'm 27 and this is s was my first round and it was a bit of a nightmare. Lol

I had 12 eggs collected of which 7 fertilised. I ended up with 2 which made it to day 5 blastocysts on day 5 and I had both of those transferred. Then on day six I got a call telling me 3 more made it to blastocyst of which 2 were good enough to freeze!

My clinic said out of the 7 fertilised on average they expect half to make it to blastocysts, so they predicted 3 for me, but obviously they also said it could be more or less!

I had the same call as you, on day 3 they said two were slower the other five looked good!!

Wow ok, yes that's very similar to me then. You must have been so shocked when they called you on day 6!

What stage are you at now then? X

I was very shocked as the embryologist on the day of transfer did not sound hopeful for the remaining 5! But I guess they need to be careful as really anything can happen and false hope is unfair!

I am now 11 days past transfer so going to test tomorrow!!

Hi we had 12 collected, 6 fertilised and 3 developed. We have our first FET last Friday with 1 embryo and we have 2 frozen. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻🤞🏻 xxx

Hi Murakami,

I did 1st NHS funded round last year.at age 40.I had 19 follicules but they only got 10 eggs,7 fertilised,2 abnormally so 5 really.They all went to day 5 and top quality blast transfered.They left the other 4 until day 6 but they were too slow to freeze.It ended in a BFN.😢

It is so hard when you invest your heart and money into this.We are about to do round 2 self funded in January at age 42 and will leave us in lots of debt but if it gets us our dream it will be worth it.❤

1 - 2 would still be really good for getting to blast so just focus on thoughts for those and anymore would be a bonus.🤗

Thanks Louise. It's so expensive, my parents are helping us so we're lucky but what happens to people who can't get help. Just awful. But like you said it will all be worth it. Good luck to you xxxxx

Hi. Our first NHS cycle we got 19eggs 14 fertilised 8 made it to blast and 5 frozen, looked super successful numbers wise but no success with any of them so far.

Second fresh NHS cycle. 12 eggs. Only 3 fertilised. Surprisingly All 3 made it to blast and I had a double fresh transfer and got my BFP. Waiting for viability scan at the moment but numbers wise my first cycle looked super successful compared. However this cycle that didn’t look so successful I got my first ever BFP. I know it’s hard not to compare cycles and not to get hung up on numbers because I did. But it could just be that one of those embryos is your baby. Don’t lose hope or feel like if you don’t have anything to freeze it’s a waste of time. I didn’t freeze anything this time and just thrilled to finally be pregnant. That's so true isn't it. Thank you for your words of wisdom and congrats on the Bfp!! It's a numbers game and more doesn't necessarily mean better.

We just need the 1 magic number!!!

Hiya, we had 9 eggs collected, 5 fertilised, all 5 made it to day five, however, only three were blastocysts, none optimal. We transferred two on Wednesday, sadly nothing to freeze by day 6. Got everything crossed we may be lucky this time.

Thanks for responding. My clinic recommends to transfer 1 and not 2. Was that your choice or did they recommend 2?

All the way through they only said we would be allowed one as I’m 29. It was a bit of a shock when they called and offered to transfer two. The only reason this was offered is that the blastocysts weren’t a great quality, we had a 4BC and an early blastocyst that was to early to grade. It was a bit of a gamble as we could have waited to day 6 but we feel we made the right decision, especially as nothing was suitable to freeze.

I’m trying not to symptom spot but it’s so much easier said than done! Lol xx
