First scan 💗 and dating query....

So today was my first scan and even though I was petrified everything was good and the sight of the heartbeat was amazing. I know there is still a way to go, but I feel so grateful to be here, this is something I thought would ever happen.

Just a dating question. I had worked out I was 8 weeks exactly today, as my egg collection was 07/05/18 and I read you add two weeks to this. The sonographer said she worked it out as two weeks plus from transfer which was 12/05/18, so would be 7+2. But she measured baby and due to size said measured at 8 weeks, so has classed me as 8weeks! Not that it matters either way as long as all is ok... was just slightly confused 🤷‍♀️ and was too emotional at the time to ask any more 🙈 xxx

Congratulations on your scan hun. Basically you are right and the sonographer is wrong! It's two weeks prior to egg collection, that's the day your eggs get fertilised. I also put the dates in a ivf calculator and it says 8 weeks today and baby is due 28th January 😘 xx

Gosh talk about the experts confusing you haha. Those are the dates I had worked out too and then when she said 7+2 I thought well that’s ok, as long all is good. Then she said measuring at 8weeks and due date 28/01/19! I thought it was strange!! Thank you for clarifying.

I know she was a good age too, so maybe a few! Though bless her she was lovely even when I was a blubbering mess so il forgive her 😂

I feel OK, I have literally not relaxed this whole pregnancy, just expecting it to go wrong. But last couple of days, I feel less anxious. I think I'm still pregnant lol so it should be fine. I expect on Wednesday I will be a mess haha xx

I'm glad the scan went well Hun. I had 3 scans, at the 1st scan the baby measured perfectly according to my egg collection date, at the 2nd scan it measured 5 days behind & at my 3rd scan at 12 weeks it measured a couple of days ahead. I told them it was an IVF pregnancy & the date of egg collection but they still dated it as they wanted! Confused me! X

Oh crickey!! How bizarre they date it when they want, IVF is pretty specific timing! I shall hopefully expect to be more confused then 🙈 xxx

I had a real argument with my hospital over dates. They insisted I was 5 days ahead of my IVF dates due to baby’s size and said that baby couldn’t possibly have grown at different rates to their chart. What a load of nonsense! In the end I ended up going with their dates as my official due date and my waters actually broke on that date!

I was the same! I had calculated 10 october based on ivf dates but was given 6 october based on the 12 week scan. I went through a period of fixating that 10 october was the 'correct' date but then as time went on,it was better to say 6 october as that was sooner to count towards plus thats the date you work with for all midwife appts. In the end she came on 1 october so they come when they are ready anyway!!!

My midwife was adamant the sonographer at my 12 week scan would date due to size and not IVF but in the end the sonographer said they never change IVF dates.

Don’t know why they don’t stick with IVF as it’s pretty accurate.

In the end she came 12 days late xx

Yes it’s strange isn’t it as IVF is pretty accurate for dates, you know exactly when it’s happened!

Congratulations on your scan!! You are right, the sonographer is wrong. Ovulation date (Egg Collection) was 7th May so 2 weeks are added onto that making you 8 weeks pregnant. Your little bean is exactly the right size it should be!! Don't worry!! x
