First scan today

Hi,

I had down Regulated (since 27th Dec) and been stimulating on Gonal-f for 6 days today, I was little disappointed to see I only had 6 follicles (plus one extra large one which she thinks is most likely a cyst). She said more May appear over the weekend (next scan Monday) - has anyone else found more appear between the two scans?

I feel she was just trying to keep me positive.

Also, the other 5 follicles were slightly larger than expected (I think she said they were 14mm and they expect 10-12mms) so she thinks we may scan on Monday and trigger on Monday for a collection on Wednesday (rather then the Friday).

My three questions are

1) has anyone found more follicles seen on second scan that weren’t seen on the first scan?

2) what size the follicles get to before they decide to collect?

3) anyone else has similar low follicle experiences they would like to share?

Hi Nic,

Sometime if you have a very large one, it can have a follicle or two behind it which they just can’t see on the scans. I’ve had this on two of my cycles.

Just remember though, it only takes one egg to make a baby so six follicles is still a good starting point. Lots of follicles doesn’t always mean better, quality over quantity!

Hi Nic_ that is a good number don't be disheartened. When I went for my last scan prior to EC I only had 3 that were leading the way and I think another 6 that were smaller. When I had EC I got 7 eggs. I was over the moon with that! Some follicles didn't contain an egg but I got a couple of double yolks lol! I remember saying to the nurse if I get more than 5 I will be happy (I'm 39). 4 of those eggs got to blastocyst, and are of good quality. Think positive 🧘‍♀️ xx

1 is cooking in my tummy, I'm 29 weeks pregnant. I just wanted to share that you don't need lots and lots of eggs, just 1 or 2 good ones xx

Hmm your experience is similar to mine. I started down regulation on 25 December... And menopur for 6 days with first scan yesterday.. I too had only 6 follicles with 3 a good size and 3 lagging... Next scan is on Monday and if the 3 ahead have progressed well and together, my collection will be Wednesday vs Friday... I agree with this potential change in plan and believe the follicles have grown faster because I've been on a higher dose of menopur. Its disappointing to have only a handful of follicles but I try to focus on quality vs quantity and pray God gives us a strong, beautiful egg.

I don't think they'll be more follicles on the Monday scan but either way, they wouldn't mature in time even for a Friday collection so focus should be on the fast performers.

They collect when the follicles are at least 18mm.theyll try to have a few in that category to increase chances of getting one good egg.

I had the same number of follicles for my first ivf cycle and we got a top grade egg and have a lovely baby girl

So keep positive, pray for the few present and that everything else works together to make the collection, transfer and whole process successful.I'm going for acupuncture this morning to help some more.

Arh thank you for sharing! We are definitely in the same boat! So glad to hear you were successful last time! You are right about focusing on the fast performers as the other wouldn’t mature ready for Friday anyway -I hadn’t thought about it this way so appreciate you sharing your wisdom and previous experiences.
