Remedies for bloated-ness 😳

Can anyone suggest anything - the wind is relentless, both ends, and I look 5 months pregnant!! It’s so uncomfortable. I hate even writing this as I know it’s all due to the Cyclogest pessaries and all for the good of our little bambino in there. Just wondered how to get some relief from it. I’ve tried peppermint tea which helps at the time but doesn’t last.

Thanks 😘

I didn't figure anything out and hoped it would end when I finished cyclogest at 13 weeks but unfortunately it has continued for me getting worse during the day so that my belly is huge come bed time. Small amounts of simple food for me to try and reduce it. Good luck.xx

Yes that’s exactly it, it builds through the day. C’est la vie I guess, a very small price to pay. xx

Exactly. That's what I keep telling myself :) xx

Nope, I didn't find anything either other than slight relief by avoiding gassy drinks. Mine didn't stop when I stopped the progesterone, but thankfully it's gone now 😇

I don’t drink gassy things anyway - ahhh thank you anyway 😬😘

All I can think is it's good the gas is getting out! Keeping moving will help with that x

Haha!! Not sure my husband agrees 😝

Have you tried cold peppermint tea, easier to drink cold (so you can drink more) xx

Peppermint tea just helps digestion if you've overeaten because it triggers your stomach to make more acid. It can give temporary relief of discomfort too, but unfortunately it doesn't help with bloating and wind which is due to the disruption of the microbiota in your lower gut from the hormones. If you can get rid of the bugs which are wreaking havoc then the others will have a better chance to get back in balance. The best way to do this is to have a "flush out" by using a bulking laxative (metamucil), and drinking lots of water for a few days, to get things really moving through. Eating probiotic foods like yoghurt or kimchii/saurkraut will be helpful too in restoring a healthy gut, and you might find that temporarily you react to brocolli/cabbage/onions/garlic/beans and other "gassy" foods even if you didn't before. It'll settle down. All these side effects of the hormones are pretty annoying aren't they!

I didn’t know all this!! Thank you I’ll see what I can do, although not keen on using a laxative. Maybe need to look closer at what I’m eating however. Thanks so much! xx

No worries! Just to clarify, the term laxative just means something that makes things "move along" in the gut. There are chemical laxatives but Metamucil is just fibre, like eating bran or prunes. It works because it bulks out the gut contents which signals to the gastroitestinal nerves that its full and it needs to get things moving. The water is to help keep the gut contents soft and easy to move along. So very natural and very safe :-)

Thanks! Yes eating loads of bran and prunes, but also perhaps the other things you mentioned like leafy greens, garlic, onions might be aggravating further. I’ll see how I go! I’ll look into Metamucil. Thank you xx

I would like to know this too! I've already resorted to wearing the maternity dresses I've been given as my belly pops out of my normal work clothes! As you say, it's a small price to pay. Xx

I ended up going to the chemists as everything I had tried was failing to allow to pass any movememts!!😳😳 Anyway, I got given Lactulose by the chemist and I got it free under the minor ailments scheme because I was pregnant!! You're in Scotland aren't you? If so you'll be eligible, not sure if it's a Scottish Government incentive or UK wide!!

Anyway, it does work although I'm kind of regretting not taking it on holiday with me!! x

No I’m in England (from Scotland, well remembered!). I am moving fairly well now, bulked my fibre content. But the wind is still bad. I think some things might be aggravating. I’ll see how I go and may speak to the chemist. But as I’m “moving” I am happy to put up with the bloating if it’s a necessary evil of the pessaries xx
