Hello. Please can anyone who had ivf on the NHS. Did you have to be 30 or under on your bmi? Or were you accepted over this? Please do you mind sharing what your bmi was? Thank you so much

It was 30 or under for me. I think 30 is standard with funding xx

Hi vicky... bmi has to be 30 or below as they will not treat you.... i had to wait to loose just a few pounds to get it under... i gt it down to 29 and was accepted straight away xx

Thank you both for replying. I think I'm going to be about 30.4 after losing over 5 stone and I'm really worried I'll be told no. I know it's only a few more pounds but I've done absolutely everything get to this. Personal trainer, no carbs, fasting and my body just won't lose anymore. 2 and a half years and I'm not sure i can do it anymore

I also think its down to the consultant.... mine was 32.3 a couple weeks and my consultant changed it sneekily lol this is for my frozen cycle this month. What i would say is just try to swap things that you eat... and youl be amazed how quickly your bmi will go down.... i gt mine down from 33 to 30.6 in 3 weeks.... when is your next appouintment?

Thts plenty of time my dear....just try to change diet, you’ve probly done this already.... try not to do heavy excercise as muscle weighs more than fat.... so is advise to eat less or healthy swaps.... less excerise so tht your muscles dont feel heavy etc and you should be fine.. does tht make sense??

Yes that makes sense. Thank you. I'll give it my best try. What did you do to mix up your diet if you don't mind me asking? X

I just had like boiled eggs at breakfast, a nice healthy lunch such as salad and chicken...and then cod/chicken and veg for dinner. I snacked on fruit and also brought weight watchers crisps and pop corn .... also mind you water intake a few days before as that can also make u feel heavier xx

They are pretty strict with BMI I’m afraid. Well done on the weight loss so far. Have you considered slimming world or weight watchers? I thought I had a healthy diet and then I went into weight watchers and realised my portion sizes were too big and snacking too much- I stayed clear of their branded food though. I just used the app and they often have a special offer for the first month which may give you a little kickstart before your appointment. And don’t wear any bulky clothes/shoes to the appointment. Good luck! X

It’s definitely 30 or under, I was sent away to lose 10lb. What I found helped was I set a date with the clinic before leaving so I had a goal although i felt under a lot of pressure. Good luck xx

Mine weighed me, I was 30.4, was told to loose weight and they weighed me at my next appointment (6 weeks later and I was 29. something) and then they never weighed me again. If they had I’d of been stuck as my cycle started right after Christmas and I’d gained again 😂 Congrats on the 5 stone though! I’m pretty sure you’ll manage the last little bit x

Just to say a massive well done for losing so much weight. Don’t doubt yourself, you can do it. I am under the 30 bmi criteria but my husband had to lose about 20kg to be under the criteria as it applies to both of you. He had an intensive workout programme through Crossfit designed just to lose weight and on the weigh in day had to sit in the sauna and exercise all morning to lose a couple more pounds. Not the best ideally but it worked. Good luck xx

BMI must be 19-30 for IVF on NHS. I assume it’s for better success rates...NHS wont want to use tax payers money unless there is a good chance of success and I know you will want to give it your best possible shot. Congratulations on losing all that weight you have done an amazing job!! If you’re that close you can def make it. If you are still worried on appt day make sure you wear your lightest clothing. Wear slip on shoes and kick them off before they even say ‘you don’t need to take your shoes off’. If you have any evidence you have lost 5 stone take that (maybe get something signed from trainer if not) and tell them you will keep up the diet. You have come this far on the diet/excercise hun so if it increases your success rates for IVF then it will all be worth it xx
