Miscarriage ..... Again!

Hi to anyone who reads this, just want to get a few things off my chest and ask if there is anything I can do in the future. Firstly I am having a second miscarriage in less than a year and I'm struggling more than last time. Both have been missed miscarriages and I have had to have treatment both times. The first one was really traumatic as I had two lots of medical management before opting for surgery. It took just over 3 months to finish. The 2nd one I have been more fortunate and completed after the first lot of medical management. I have been told that they won't investigate further unless I miscarry for a third time, I really don't think I could cope with this. Is there anything that I can do that might help prevent this?

I would suggest giving them a call. I’m not sure if Lalabear would meet the criteria for further testing having had two miscarriages but it wouldn’t hurt to find out and they are the most lovely and sympathetic people to talk to. I think it’s awful that us ladies have to have three losses before anyone will help xx

So sorry to hear your news big hugs. My clinic after first miscarriage checked blood clotting thromophillia and nk killer cells. My nk cells came up marginally high so on steroids. Sometimes people get Intralipid infusions if the levels are very high. Some people rave by them some people not sure. Worth a little look into. Good luck for your future xxx

So sorry to read this, your story sounds so similar to mine expect my first MMC medical management worked and the second I ended up trying twice and then surgery. There are no words to make it any easier and in time you will get stronger, I had genetic testing done but that still gave me no answers.

I did contact Tommy’s but they wont do anything until Ive have another miscarriage. You could ask your consultant to have your NK cells tested but otherwise I have no answers regarding prevention, I really wish I did xx

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Hun. It's so frustrating that you are expected to suffer 3 losses before getting help. I had my 2nd missed miscarriage last year & the bereavement midwife told me to ask my GP to refer me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic due to the length of time it takes me to conceive & my age. He flatly refused. I had to pay privately at my IVF clinic prior to our first IVF cycle. Wrong on so many levels in my opinion, it's like miscarriage is not taken seriously. I hope you get help from somewhere xx

So sorry to read this I can't imagine how awful it must have been for you both times. If you get in touch with your clinic and ask them they should advise. However I would also suggest the nk tests, thrombophilia and infection tests.

The thrombophilia tests can be done by local clinics for under £300 and you get the results in 13 days. Some clinics abroad do a full diagnositc round of tests before they even begin any ivf.

I hope you get the answers you need soon xxx

I feel for you as this week I too am suffering my second miscarriage in the space of a year. It feels like there is no help & I keep being told "its just bad luck". I'm interested in what you find out about test's that can be done or what help there is out there to see what can be done for future pregnancies. Hope your doing ok - I find that lots of cakes & getting your diary full again helps xx

I’m so sorry to read this. I too had two missed miscarriages last year in April and September. As they were my second and third miscarriages all together I got some tests done and it turns out I am lupus anticoagulant positive. If I’d known how much the tests for this were I’d have happily paid it even before starting ivf, just to “rule it out” so to speak. I’ve read that the lupus anticoagulant costs £100 for example. It’s so sad that to think for a hundred pound test I might have had one of my babies by now if only we had the option of doing such things before ivf. Can you afford to look into having some tests run privately? xx

I’m so sorry for your losses. I can’t believe how it varies; my fertility specialist has assured me if I lost another pregnancy ( had a mc last year) he’d refer us to miscarriage clinic as he thinks it’s too cruel letting someone lose more than 2 pregnancies. I’m disgusted by the fact you are not being referred . Perhaps contact Tommy’s as others have suggested. Or could you change location of doctor or fertility clinic to be eligible for recurring miscarriage clinic? It’s so wrong this postcode lottery xoxov

As other have said, maybe pay for some tests privately. I’m a stuck record but I had private tests done after one miscarriage and two failed ivfs, karyotyping on my husband and I showed that he has a balanced chromosome translocation which makes us much more prone to miscarriage. We had this as part of a suite of tests so I’m not sure how much it would be on its own but had it done through my infertility clinic. Not sure whether you had infertility treatment to help you fall pregnant but if you did then ask them what tests they offer if you can afford to.

I feel your pain I suffered two miscarriages in the space of a few months once after IVF and then shortly after having fell pregnant naturally. I went to the GP and asked them to refer me telling them it was my third as I wanted answers and wasn’t going to be told no. I think it’s crazy you have to wait until you have had three x

So sorry you have to go through this. I know how bad you feel. I've been through the same situation. I’ve got pg through IVF. But I lost my baby… It’s so painful!!! It hurts so much. Just don’t hold yourself from crying. Scream if you want to. My best friend was with me on the whole ordeal. Of course DH is a great help too. This is something that you don't wish anybody to deal with… Even to your enemy… It hurts to hear that you are going through this too… Be brave and I hope time and support will help you to overcome the pain.
