BET done!

Just had our 5 day BET done - I got told off for not having a full enough bladder even though I had drunk a pint of water in the couple of hours before.

Anyway, we ended up with one front runner, so they just went with one for the transfer (despite me being 40). Out of our other 6 from day 3, 3 are being frozen but 2 are a bit behind so they are going to re-check them in the morning and decide whether to freeze those as well.

I’ve seen lots of people referencing the quality of their embryos, but we’ve not been told at any point anything other than they are “good”, “doing well” etc. I can’t shake a nagging feeling that maybe they’re not great but they’ve gone ahead anyway (cynical I know). Am I being paranoid? Do you think it’s worth me contacting the clinic to ask re the grading?

Glad today went well I was thinking of you! There is no harm you asking what the grading was but don’t beat yourself up (I know that’s easy to say) you need to rest and try to stay relaxed (again easy to say) keeping everything crossed for you x

Clinics don’t tend to freeze embryos unless they’re decent quality so the fact they are freezing some is a positive thing. At my last appointment I was asking questions about how they decide which embryo to defrost and was told it didn’t really matter as they wouldn’t have been frozen if the clinic didn’t think they were good enough to make it. Lord Robert winston points out that the only embryo that is a ‘good’ embryo is one that turns into a baby, no matter what the grade, and I think he has a point. Personally, I would only ask about the grading if you are in the sad position of this round not working so you have an idea about chances with the remaining embryos. Different clinics use different grading systems as well. However, as others have said, they don’t usually freeze embryos that haven’t made it to blastocyst as they don’t defrost well.
