Protein

My nurse told me to have a high protein diet, I’ve introduced having a protein shake in the morning but haven’t done too much outside of that. For breakfast I have natural yoghurt and granola, lunches vary but this week I’ve got whole meal bagel with water thin chicken, fruit, and juice drink. I sometimes have nuts to snack on such as almonds. Dinners will consist of chicken with veg, fish and perhaps red meat every other week. Any tips on what I should have in my diet? I’m also taking folic acid, are there any other vitamins that are needed to help in increasing chances? Xx

Hi

I was recommended to take vitamin d as well as folic acid.

Good luck!

Plenty of iron-rich foods too like leafy greens. I also had a glass of organic beetroot juice every morning to help with blood flow 🤢 and lots of water. Good luck! Xx

I ate a lot of Spinach and broccoli.

Protein wise tofu is another good alternative and turkey mince.

Cut out or reduce caffeine and obviously alcohol.

I took a preconception vitamin, folic acid, high dose vitamin c, vitamin e and d, magnesium with zinc and calcium, royal jelly and coq-10 for egg quality.

Minimum 2L of water a day.

I bought a book fairly late on in the game by Zita West- The IVF diet and it has recipes in there and what is best to eat at what stages. Good Luck x

Hi Chantelle89.A good diet to have at this time consists of variety, however, I have listed some of the “good” things to have: Carbohydrates - Wholegrain bread and wholemeal pasta, oatmeal, brown rice. All fresh vegetables especially raw or steamed. Over boiling rids them of vitamins and minerals, pineapple juice, apricots, potatoes, all fruit and honey, beans, chickpeas and lentils. Protein - Organic meat if possible, poultry, fish, Milk and hard cheese, nuts and seeds. Fat - Extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil, avocado and peanut butter, mackerel, sardines, nuts (especially Brazil and walnuts), seeds, sweet corn and sweet potatoes. The things to avoid are too much sugar, processed foods, ready meals, butter, ice cream etc. Try adding some vitamin D to your folic acid. Good luck! Diane

Thanks Diane this is really useful!!! Xx

Second recommendation of vitamin d.

You can use the free app MyFitnessPal to monitor your diet if you can be bothered. A few days tracking on mine showed I probably need to up my protein.

Hi Chantelle I did a high protein diet on this round and I had a big difference in egg quality and numbers! I wish I’d know about it first time round 🙄 I also took an omega supplement. I brought organic whey protein powder and had one with breakfast and at night with a pint of milk. Wishing you all the best x
