No cycles

So frustrated with trying to find a doctor to figure out what’s wrong with me rather than just trying to get me pregnant. Yes I want to have children soon but I feel like my not having cycles AT ALL is an issue that needs to be addressed first!! Also, finding someone that my insurance covers is so frustrating!

Hi joannatsummers. As you say, no having periods is not OK, so you need to see your GP to be referred perhaps to a gynaecologist for investigations into your "amenorrhoea". Good luck! Diane

Been to a few gynos they just try a few rounds of fertility medications and when those don’t work they kind of dismiss the whole issue. The ones I’ve had friends refer me to, aren’t covered under my insurance, sadly.

Hi jaonnatsummers. Perhaps go back to your GP and get referred to perhaps an endocrinologist who would check out your hormones more thoroughly?? There are several types of hormone treatments for this type of issue, so try seeing someone else. Good luck! Diane

I recently discovered reproductive endocrinology and looked it up. It sounds exactly like what I need and that was my next plan! Thank you for confirming that for me!

Go through NHS for initial diagnoses? Are you based in London?

I’m in USA

Right, have you done your blood test to see your FSH and AMH levels? Have you ever had a natural bleed since puberty?

I’ve had tons of blood testing done, but no one told me what they were testing for and I’m assuming since i never got calls about results it was all normal. Yes I had normal, natural cycles (except when on depo-provera for one year) up until I turned about 29. I might have had 2 cycles naturally since then and I’m 32. The rest were induced with medication, but that stopped working. The last cycle I had came from taking a double dose of birth control every day for 2 weeks. I haven’t had a cycle since March 1st and my regular gyn prescribed me regular dosing of birth control after annoying the crap out of them. I’m on day 2 of it.

Why does this sound so much like my menstral history? I've only ever bled once or twice naturally since puberty and only ever had my cycle if I was on birth control. I was very late into this condition diagnosed with menaupausal and ovarian failure.

Both the above can be diagnosed only with the tests mentioned above. (AMH, FSH)

Get these tests done privately if needed and you will get an insight on what's happening on the inside. I really hope you don't get diagnosed with any of these conditions but like yourself I left it till I was 32/33 and only then took it really seriously.

Obviously I’m not a medical professional but it doesn’t seem like it is something that is hard to diagnose, it’s just a matter of actually doing tests.

Hi i was in the same boat as you last year. We'd been trying for two years but i just didn't have periods so it was obvious something wasn't right. It took a long time to be referred (NHS in the uk is good but not quick!) and had blood tests, told to lose weight and ended up having a HSG test ( not sure if you've had one?) but its where they inject a dye into the uterus and it flows through your ovaries to check for blockages. That came back clear so they couldn't find anything. It must have fixed something because I've just put my 5 month old daughter down for her morning nap! Not sure how it works in the USA, but push for a HSG test if you haven't already, it's that depo shot that does it, it's awful! Hope you're ok :-)

Effing depo shot!!! I had that 10 years ago and i was regular after it! I’ve heard the HSG’s can be clear and “fix” things! I’ve had 2 doctors suggest that HSG would be the next thing they tried but insurance didn’t cover one hospital that one dr had privileges at and the other dr is an incompetent jerk who’s office has just been ignoring me.

I’ve been told I might need to lose weight, and I’ve just found out that I have a bunch of food allergies and since cutting out those things I’ve gained even more weight 😞

Did you all of the sudden have normal cycles, or start having cycles naturally after the HSG?

also how bad did it hurt? I heard it sucks if it’s clear but if they’re a blockage it’s SO SO painful. 😳

I had the HSG at the end of June 2016, 1 cycle in the middle of july and tested positive but the end of August so we think we conceived around the first two weeks of August, so it really did seem to"flush and reset". No it didn't hurt, its uncomfortable and awkward (as all examinations are down there) but it was afterwards, it was like bad period pains. I went to a springsteen concert the next day so all was fine haha how can they just ignore you? I really don't understand the US health system, we hear all sorts on the news here but it seems like you have to die before they consider seeing you 😱

It took 10 years for someone to diagnose that I needed my gallbladder out. I was the one that finally figured out which test needed to be done and asked for it and they took the gb the next day. 😑 can I move? lol
