Myself and my partner are awaiting ivf treatment for the very first time..
My partner was diagnosed with a condition called congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens around four years ago. It basically means that he doesn't have the tubes to ejaculate sperm.
We are both praying that there will be sperm inside him in order for us to have a chance at IVF.
I was just wondering if anyone in this community has or knows someone with this condition?
We just want to know what chance there is of doctors retrieving sperm?
It's such a nerve wracking time awaiting this kind of thing.. you feel as though your future is hanging in the balance & if anyone can give us any information or success stories we would appreciate it soooo much.
If not, I guess we will have to wait and hope that luck is on our side
Thankyou x

Although my partner hasn't got the same condition as yours. He has got azoospermia so doesn't ejaculate sperm. His condition results from an abnormality with one of his tubes. Due to my partners age and a low reserve myself we opted to go private. My partner saw an amazing urologist who gave a high chance of finding sperm. He went through a successful sperm retrieval in May and we started our 1st round of IVF (well ICSI) in June. Unfortunately we got a BFN this time however we still have 3 little embies waiting for us. Don't give up hope. If I can be of any help or if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Wishing you lots and lots of luck xx
Thankyou so much for sharing your story. Wishing you every luck in the world. It's so reassuring to hear from others in similar situations. We will have a read through your profile and let you know if there's anything we need to ask sending baby dust your way xxx
Hi, I'm replying on my wife's account after she brought this to my attention.
I got diagnosed with the same condition (linked to being a cystic fibrosis gene carrier in my case, though it was the first I knew of this) , so you most definitely are not alone in this, and I hope what I tell you can give you some support.
I had a surgical retrieval done earlier this year, having been given a 96% (highly specific number I thought!) chance of finding viable sperm based on blood test results and examinations.
The result of the procedure was 3 vials successfully obtained, though there were some worries during the procedure that there was nothing being found, so try to keep positive!
I hope it all goes well for you both, we know exactly what you are going through, so if you have any other questions, send us a message and we'll do our best to help
This message has given us so much hope. So happy that you had a successful spark retrieval. I think currently this is our biggest worry, but my partner has already been told that they are almost certain that there is sperm as he appears to have a lot of testosterone with his facial hair and the size of his testicles - we've had a few laugh at that part haha!
So all in all, it is looking quite hopeful. It's just so lovely to hear about others in similar situations and definitely fills you with optimism.
So again thankyou so much!
And good luck in your journey.
We will both have a read of your profile and if we have any questions we will definitely get in touch.
Hi, glad it's helped I know it's absolutely horrible having that news and waiting god knows how long for appointments and the not knowing. Thanks for the good wishes, we are currently gearing up for a frozen transfer so fingers crossed second time lucky. My husband has really struggled coming to terms with it all, it's tough. Good luck for your appointments xx
Hi, our daughters husband was diagnosed with exactly this!
They had been ttc for over a year before they found out what the problem was earlier this year, they told him it's a fairly routine operation and normally quite successful.
He had sperm retrieval done in June. He had to be at the hospital early on the day of the op and was in surgery for around an hour in total, everything went very well. They got 12 straws of semen for freezing, enough, they said, for 4 tries. He was quite sore for a couple of weeks afterwards but one swelled a lot more than the other one which they said was bad luck. Once the swelling went down he was fine! The most stressful part for her was getting the pot of swimmers to the women's hospital within the requested hour as it was rush hour lol.
At the beginning of August I went to stay with her for a few days as she had her egg collection, icsi and then transfer at 5 days resulting in a bfp after a 5 day bleed which she had assumed was a normal af! She found the bfp hard to believe as she had, up to that point, no symptoms of pregnancy at all.
She had her 6 week ivf scan last week and everything is as it should be, she saw the heartbeat, she's just started getting a bit of nausea this week, she's now dated as being 8 weeks. We're still in shock that it worked the first time but mega excited and keeping everything crossed that it continues to go well.
Try not to worry, he was told at his initial appointment that there was a good chance of managing to retrieve some. He has Spina Bifida and had a blood test years ago which told them he was producing sperm, it wasn't until early this year that they found out it couldn't get to where it should.
Good luck, has he got a date yet for having it done? They're in Liverpool and it was done quite quickly once they found out what was the problem xxx
Aww bless you both, I'll be following you to see how it goes!
Feel free to message me if you want to, wishing you the world of luck on your journey and keeping everything crossed that it goes as well for you both as it has for them, so far 🤞
Hey S1mon, don't worry I heard about this problem someone from my friend circle. That couple gone through one minor surgery (don't know the exact name) and after that everything was pretty good. I think you should concern some specialist they can suggest you actual terms. here are some Interactive Webinar are going on internet, you guys can go through them and can ask you queries via chat etc,. Hope it will helps you! Good luck with your treatment XX
