I'm new here....

Hi everyone,

This is all new to me. We have been told that Ivf is our next option.we have now made our choice on what clinic we would like to use.

So it's now just a waiting game? How long does it take from being told that Ivf is next option?

At the moment we are just waiting to get a call or will it be a letter from the clinic.

It would be nice if someone could advise me on the next process, as I'm starting to get worried if it's going to be another long waiting process for Ivf to be started.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm starting to get worked up, when I know that I should be taking it easy and focusing on the end process.

Thanks

Hi Sweet are you private or NHS? I'm NHS and I was referred at the end of May for IVF and I started my first round last Wednesday I found things moved pretty quickly once the IVF referral was made x

Hi and welcome.

Me and my husband have had to go private. My gp referred me and within 3 days I had received a letter from the private clinic asking me to get in touch. I can't help you on the waiting time for NHS as it's not an option we had. Good luck with everything and I hope that you hear something soon. Xx

Hi shivvyboom79,

As with the previous reply, are you NHS or private. Our experience with the NHS was/is absolutely ridiculous and we were quite literally fobbedd off for five years to the extent my o/h and I decided enough was enough and decided on private IVF. We approached a private clinic in February 2017, initial scans in May, decision made to proceed in June and now I am a couple of days away from starting the hormone protocol to startstage one of IVF. Each couple's journey is different, but each of us go through the same feelings and stages of IVF one way or another.

Welcome to the crazy roundabout!

I'm on the NHS.

I've been back and forth to the hospital and had all test done.

This is my next option as it's unexplained primary infertility..

So I'm just a bit worried that it's going to be a long wait.

Xx

Thanks for your messages

Think the wait mainly depends on the clinic. We had first gp fertility referral in may. Then a wait to the fertility clinic then a wait for ivf funding to be approved, then a wait for the ivf clinic appointment. First ivf clinic appointment 31st December and first cycle started February.

I was going crazy with wait times but phoned the clinic directly after the funding was approved and asked them for advice in where I was and what their wait times were. If you've chosen your clinic directly phoning them might be able to give you an idea of timelines x

Hey, tbh it all depends on your clinic - we were told in the November we could start and then actually stared medication in the April. The waiting to start is the worst bit, at my clinic my hubby and I both had to fill out a lot of paper work and have a few additional tests so it didn't feel a complete waste of the months waiting and I focused a lot on getting myself 'ready'. Wishing you lots of luck xx

Hi, i had a 2 month wait after referral on NHS which went quicker than i thought it would. Especially once treatment started. I'm now in the 2WW. Can't believe it already! I couldn't fault the NHS at all really. X

I also went through the NHS, I was referred by my GP in may 2015, got hospital appointment in September 2015 and started ivf after all tests etc in may 2016. It all took a while to finally get to start ivf but I've found the second time round was a little quicker. Everyone's experience is different.

I got a letter to say we could get NHS funding, we then had to attend at group meeting which told us all about what to expect then we got an appointment to sign all consent forms/collect medication then it was just a waiting game until AF arrived and we could officially start.

Good luck and try not worry, if you need any advice this group is amazing :) xx

Hello! Ah the waiting is so hard, you just want to get the ball rolling! Like the other girls have said it really depends on clinic. I chose a clinic which was private but took NHS patients, so once I was referred it was only two weeks before we saw a consultant, and a month all in all before I started my first round. Might be worth giving them a buzz as they'd be able to give you a rough time scale I would have thought. Good luck and I hope it isn't too long before you are able to start this mad experience!!! Xxxxxx

Hi, I'm with NHS and our first consultation took about 6 weeks between approval for IVF and meeting a consultation. Our first appointment was at the start of November and our ET was 1.5 weeks ago...so yes it takes a while but we'd been trying for 2 years when we got our first appointment but had a tubal issue which allowed us to skip the '3 year wait'. Good luck with yours xx
