How do you cope with cramps?

Hi everyone

I haven't posted for a while been swamped with work trying to 'bank hours' ready for when I need time off. Starting first round of IVF. Took norethisterone tablets for a week & am on buserelne nasal spray. Had some flu like symptoms feeling hot & cold, achy & tired. Occasionally dizzy but can cope with that. I started bleeding yesterday & had some cramping but felt like normal period pains.

3am this morning I got woken up by the worse cramps I've ever had. I thought I had quite a high pain threshold but that was agony & I was in tears. Eventually I managed to get myself downstairs & made a hot water bottle & took painkillers but didn't touch it. My husband came home from his nightshift about 6am to find me sobbing on the kitchen floor & wanted to call an ambulance. Luckily I managed to persuade him not to & the pain eased off.

I'm hoping this isn't going to be a regular side effect? Has anyone else had this? Any tips on how to cope with the cramps? x

I haven't started my treatment yet so not had any cramps related to that but do get some horrific period cramps. I find it helps if I lie on my back and pull my knees up to my chest. It's not the most comfortable or flattering position to be in to be honest but it definitely eases the pain for me.

I hope they ease off for you soon. Good luck with your treatment xx

Thanks for replying. I tried every position I could think of but nothing helped 😖 I'm hoping it was just because of the start of the bleed & will ease off.

Good luck to you for when your treatment starts x

Hi theblondeone. So sorry to hear that you have been suffering so much. Sounds like it is just down to the drugs you are taking, and once you start the stimulation drug you will feel so much better. Try drinking lots of water and take paracetamol regularly, if needed, unless something else has been prescribed. The drug affects the pituitary gland in the brain, and often extra water can help. No anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Hope you soon feel better. Diane

Thanks Diane. I will drink extra & hopefully that will help. Didn't think I'd look forward to starting my injections lol but if it makes me feel better great x

Hi, I have just gone through my period while injecting buserelin and had the worse pain for a long while, and I suffer quite bad period pain as I have endometriosis. Unfortunately like Diane said ibuprofen is off the menu, so keep taking the paracetamol n hot water bottle - hopefully it takes the edge off for you! I just keep reminding myself it's not for ever and its all for a good cause, fingers crossed! Good luck on your journey xx

Thank you x

Don't mean to sound stupid but why no ibuprofen?

Not 100% sure, but think it sort of contradicts the other drugs we are on, especially when on the stims. Hope u feel better soon, my really bad pain only lasted a couple of days thankfully! I've moved onto hot flushes now!!🙈x

I used to get horrific cramps with endo. Hot water bottle, electric blanket or a warm bath. Hope it gets better for you x
