So we have been waiting to see the consultant to go through all initial tests we had two weeks ago. Got the letter today for it to say our appointment is 4th January how can it be a 7 month wait?? This is at st Mary's Manchester has anyone experienced this. I am hoping it is an error on their part really

I had my first 2 cycles of treatment there and I do remember we waited ages (can't remember exact time frame as it was a few years ago) try phoning them and asking if you can be put on the cancellation list should any appointments come up before then xx

Gosh that's a long time to wait. I had ivf at the Hewitt centre in Liverpool and did not wait long at all. Ask for a cancellation or change clinics x

I hope so but definitely check. It's hard enough waiting for test results never mind having to wait months to get started 😣. I hope all goes well for you. X

We had our initial consultation in in the July and treatment the following march/April, so similar timeframes in afraid.

It may be worth to keep phoning for cancellations. You may get lucky. 🤞

We havet even had the consultation I can't get my head around it. all we have had is the tests at Manchester and this appointment is to discuss what happens next. Why would that be 7 months wait oh I hope it's wrong x

in reply tolauren3189

That does sound like a very long wait. Definitely call them to clarify. Really hope it's a typo.

Fingers crossed x

Hi Laura I think all health boards are different but some seem to give you an initial consultation then you go on the list which can take months. Others you go on the list and wait months but at your consultation you then start treatment on your next cycle.

I waited about 8 months for my appointment but then started treatment within weeks xx

Thank you I have been in tears to be honest. That's a little silver lining I guess. Where are you based. I am concerned I would need all the scans etc again with it being so long x

in reply tolauren3189

I know it can be really upsetting and everything seems to take for ever. I am in Scotland xx

Fingers crossed for you it all works. I think I find it really hard as during all this waiting time more people around me are becoming pregnant and I am helpless x

Hi we had an almost 7 month wait between initial consultation and then waiting all that time to hear our test results. I sent an email to the patient liaison services as the wait had a horrible impact on my emotional health. My reply was that they don't send the results via post to find out earlier due to the sensitive nature etc.. so you have to wait to see the consultant..... I managed to get a cancellation so my wait was shortened from 7 months to 6 months.. I hope you manage to get sooner.... The good thing is we had our appointment 4 days ago and she said treatment may start as quick as next month so it gets better once you get there xx

Thank you I am frustrated that we can't hear our results too. For us its male infertility so it would be so much better knowing our options. It's frustrating as on the letter it said you come for your tests then wait up to 4 weeks for a reply that's been 2. The next step is to see the consultant I can't believe it's in 7 months time. How did you get on with the cancellation did you have to keep contacting them to check if there was one? I bet you are so excited now x

Bless you.... We are here for male factor infertility too..... i know it is so hard waiting...... it's emotionally draining and whilst waiting for results I started panicking that there were issues with me too worrying about AMH levels etc and other tests too... I felt it was abit cruel really though I know the NHS can't help it. It will all be down to funding....

Yeah we are really excited but also scared bit just want to get cracking now. I really wish u all the best xxxxxx

Yes so we had our consultation on wed wednesday after our 6 month wait between appointments... and we have a nurse consultation on 4th July to sign consent forms and been told we can start soon after (as in within a few weeks). So considering the precious 6 month wait between appointments it's going quite quickly thankfully xx

This is slightly different but we were waiting for an appointment with a consultant gynaecologist at St Marys after our first round of IVF was unsuccessful in April. The initial appointment they gave us was October. We asked to be put on a cancellation list and said we could come in at short notice. We were phoned with an appointment for the next day in the middle of May. It is worth phoning to check. Good luck xxx

Thank you. So confusing. I'd feel better if we had seen the consultant and then gone on a waiting list but to not have even seen them grrr x

Hi there, we're in Wales and being referred to Shrewsbury so obviously different to you but we also had a big wait. After having the initial tests we waited approx 7 months to see the consultant. That was last July and we still haven't started our ivf yet (looks like it will be in the next few months) it's so frustrating how different areas vary so much on waiting times :-(

Like you said, hopefully it's just an error and you will be seen sooner. Good luck xx

Oh wow so when will you be seen x

in reply tolauren3189

Well we have a group info session next week and then an appointment with the nurse early July. When they phoned to book me in for those the lady said expect to begin by late summer so I really hope she's right. First time I've ever wanted summer to hurry up and end! Xx

This seems insane?!? Has your GP actually given you the test results? Have you been referred already for ivf? Xx

lauren3189 profile image
lauren3189 in reply toAleelilook

We had all our tests done at our local hospital they then referee us to Manchester so we have had bloods scans partners analysis again!! The next meeting would be to tell us the results and what is next so I don't know how they think it's okay to wait 7 months xx

God no that's just ludicrous, I would definitely phone them and find out what's happening, or if they can give you a phone consultation to speed things up a bit?! Xx

so frustrating. Phoned them and the receptionist said it was a long time to wait as well. She said the clinic might be fully booked which is why its so long. She said she would try to move it forward but she couldn't wait to get off the phone! I asked her how would i know if its been moved forward and she said to ring up and check for cancellations. I said so i am just expected to keep ringing up, how will i know when to ring? She eventually said if we hadn't heard anything in 4 weeks to ring back.

It is so frustrating, surely all our scans bloods and samples would need to be redone by then!
