Assisted hatching

Hi lovely people, has anyone tried assisted hatching? This has been offered to us as an extra just wondering if anyone else had it done. But double minded in case there is risk involved to the embryo. Thanks x

Hey Hun i have just copied and pasted this...Assisted hatching is a newer lab technique that was developed when fertility experts observed that embryos with a thin zona pellucida had a higher rate of implantation during IVF. With assisted hatching, an embryologist uses micromanipulation under a microscope to create a small hole in the zona pellucida.

It's meant to help with implantation after failed cycles and with women with low amh. It costs 475 at my clinic so just wondering if anyone else had it and was successful! Xx

I had assisted hatching with my FET after my fresh ICSI cycled failed. I now have a 12 week old baby boy 😌 I wasn't given the option they just done it but my cycle was through the NHS xx

Hi Hun thanks for getting back to me, i am double minded about if i should have it or not. We are self funding this time around so trying to keep costs down! But at the same time i was to give it my all. Congrats on the birth of your baby boy x

Hi, I had assisted hatching as my AMH is low and the clinic thought my zona (outside of the eggs) were too tough. I did get pregnant on this attempt but sadly shortly after had a miscarriage. It cost us around £500 but I'd do it again. I had to almost insist on it, but after you're told you have 2 eggs and they might not hatch I would have tried anything.

Thanks for you reply hun, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you but hope you get your little rainbow baby soon. I think we will go ahead with it. I personally don't want to regret anything and feel like i didn't try everything! My clinic have changed my medication and put me on lubion injections aswell. Hope it works out x

hunny just to ask a quick question, what was your AMH? I still have tommorrow to decide if I want the assisted hatching...very confused x

Hi, it was 4.7 ... I just checked my old paperwork. When I originally went to the clinic it was about 6 but went lower after surgery.

When I first had icsi I was told "I had good looking eggs but as I only had 2 they went for a day 3 transfer. After it failed I was told the zona was too thick and they probably couldn't hatch". I was so upset they didn't hatch. Then my consultant said "we do assisted hatching but it costs more as we have to get a machine in". I was mad that they didn't give us this option before it failed. I mean... an additional £500 with the possibility of a BFP or if it fails another expensive ivf. When you've only got 1 or 2 eggs you'll do anything to help them hatch and if it doesn't work up to that I guess it's upto the embryo. I've heard of friends who got pregnant after assisted hatching. They may have got pregnant without it but who knows.

I'm on the DE journey now with one BFN after 1 transfer and we have 2 frosties left. If I were younger and using my own eggs again I wouldn't hesitate.

Thanks for your reply hun, my husband and I were just talking and thinking maybe to do a natural ivf this time and just use embryo glue and if it dosent work then to go for assisted hatching next time. Still not sure. My gut feeling is saying not yet, but who knows it might change by tomorrow! Best of luck to youxxx

I think it depends which 'attempt' you are on and if you can afford to go again etc. Def go for embryo glue and maybe ask for a 'scratch' which is supposed to help implantation.

If it's your first ivf cycle then maybe go for the natural approach and listen to your gut. I did that the first time ... wanting everything natural and thinking my body would just do it and look after things, and it didn't work for me. The second time I spent a fortune having acupunture and chinese medicine at the zhai clinic in London. That time I had empty follicles and no eggs. I think the acupunture was a good thing but maybe the chinese herbs played a negative role? The 3rd time (which was going to be our last attempt) I would have thrown everything at it.

Forth attempt, I had DE and no scratch, embryo glue - BFN. This time they recommended the scratch, and embryo glue again (but obviously with DE being better than my own ...hopefully xx)

Whatever you decide, follow your heart and listen to your gut instinct. That way, whatever the outcome it won't be wrong. Best wishes xx

This is our second IVf cycle hun, we have had two failed IUI's aswell. The first time I only had 3 eggs and only one made it to a day 3 transfer and I had used embryo glue. My AMH is 8.4 (so on the low side aswell)

This time we are using embryo glue aswell, I hope that we have some left to freeze aswell.
