Hi all! Starting my first round of ivf in April 😬 At the moment I go to the gym 3-4 times a week & do classes do you think I should stop once I start treatment? Xx
Exercise during treatment. - Fertility Network UK
Exercise during treatment.
Hi
You can ask at your clinic. Mine said nothing except gentle exercise like yoga pilates walking etc. They also allowed swimming up to EC.
I used to exercise 5-6times weekly sometimes 2xdaily. My body fat very low and I genuinely believe thats what stopped me conceiving naturally. When I started injections I changed from cardio to do my gentle exercise like swimming Pilates and walking. It was very difficult but I did it. After transfer you ate told not to swim so cut it out too. It paid off as currently 8 wks pregnant!!!😲
I also googled it and the advise is to cut it down especially hard cardio and running.xx
I was going to start running again this week having put on a heap of weight with last treatment! Is running ok up until treatment starts again? My FET is end of May so thought I have a good number of weeks ti get fit again if I can run?
Yes before treatment is fine. As long as you don't train obsessively like I used to exercise is good for you and they say weight loss good too for fertility. It's just about hitting the right balance I think.xx
Thanks Hun-yeah don't see me getting to in to it-it's a miracle I even get my running shoes on!! But I feel bloaty & horrid right now which isn't helping me have a positive state of mind so need to take some action x
I was sick this morning and have been feeling dreadful today but I still dragged myself to Legs Bums n Tums tonight. Got to admit doing cruches and Russian twist wasn't my favourites and I burped throughout! Not nice for fellow people in class! But I feel better for it xx
Hi Hope, I'm on my first round of ICSI on the long protocol.
Up until today I didn't feel the need to stop exercising (2-3 days a week, fairly intense) - in fact I found it helped with the lethargy the down reg drugs induced - although I've had to control some headaches with paracetamol and lots of water.
I started the simulation drugs on Fri and it is this stage that you are told to avoid impact exercise - not only could you find it uncomfortable/painful with your ovaries getting so large but I believe there is a risk of them twisting.
However, I continued with exercise until today because I felt fine and I need exercise for my sanity. I've now started to feel quite bloated, yucky and sore; particularly when being too active (digging and carrying stuff in the allotment!). So I'll be sticking to walking until my ovaries start to feel like mine again!
I wish you all the best for your journey xx
Thanks for bringing this up Hope, I've been meaning to ask about this too - I'm starting Round #2 in April and last time cut down on exercise from the start of my down reg drugs, but felt I could have comfortably carried on for longer - I agree with the post below that you'll want to cut down when you start stims and I wouldn't advise anything except gentle walking after egg collection. Good luck and keep us posted! xxx
Hi Hope,
Once my treatment was in its later stages, I didn't feel like doing too much vigorous exercise because I was so bloated and my ovaries were so big. After EC, I just rested, but now in my 2WW I have started doing gentle exercise again. Lots of walking basically.
Hope it all goes well for you
Thank you ladies! Think I'm going to carry on like normal then at the gym and then just see what my body tells me once I treatment starts. Xxx
