Hi I've just had a lap and dye on the 23rd of Feb, our fertility nurse said we will have a letter in the post within a couple of weeks with our first appointment for ivf as there was endometriosis and slow flowing tubes, and no waiting list, could anyone please tell me what this will be as I'm not sure what the first step is thank you.
Our first appointment? : Hi I've just... - Fertility Network UK
Our first appointment?
Hi Tarah, our consultation was a while ago now but from what I remember it was basically a chat around our blood test results that we'd had done via the GP and the consultant advised what he thought would be the best treatment for us. He gave some advice on what we needed to do (give up alcohol/caffeine, take folic acid etc) and ordered more blood tests and scans. It was quite informal but it was the first step. It's great that there's no waiting list! I hope that everything goes well for you, good luck x x x
Yep, our first appointment was similar to what MommaBear says. Explaining further... and having more tests booked in if required. Fairly swift for us too initially as no waiting list; so that's all good. good luck! x
agreed with you both. Our first appointment was similar. we were at clinic almost the whole day. We underwent some blood tests, sperm count and other examination. Also we were given all needed meds, I have to inject myself at home. Thanks God, I won't do it by myself, the friend of mine has a medical education and I asked her to do it for me.
The doctor said we should came for the second visit and stay at clinic up to 10 day( our embryo transfer)
Don't be afraid of making first steps, we will support you, dear
Morning Tarah, I just wanted to add to MommaBear's reply to say that I actually had my first scan at my first appointment too. Nothing at all to worry about, just wanted to warn you that some clinics may do that so it wasn't a surprise. You seem to be further along your investigations & fertility journey than we were at that stage though so may not need that.
Once we had reached the top of the waiting list, our first appointment with the IVF nurse was to run through how the treatment would work and give rough estimates of starting dates. She also booked us in to renew our blood test before we start (at the beginning of April).
All the very best with your appointment and wishing you all the luck for the treatment itself. x
Hi tarahxxxxx. Often a first appointment is with the nurse, and/or consultant, where further blood tests being may carried out to check for HIV, Hepatitis, and chlamydia. Probably check out your hormones again including AMH. A further semen analysis ordered if any problems with the last one. A chat about giving yourself injections, plus when these will start. Then there will be some legal paperwork to fill in, which you may have to take away for GP to sign. You might be invited to an open evening to learn all about the process from start to finish, although this is not always offered. An internal scan of your ovaries may be done too to check for any cysts on your ovaries. You've already had your "lap & dye" done, so you will probably discuss the findings further, just in case you need any further treatment on your tubes prior to IVF. Can't think of anything else. Good luck! Diane
