Hi, hope everyone is doing well. Just considering a pre payment card as it may be cheaper than paying for prescriptions individually. Just wondered how many prescriptions you need in total on a long protocol. Thanks for any advice xx

Prescriptions
Hi I saved lots of money getting a 3 month pre payment prescription card. At my 1st nurses app for long protocol I was prescribed 5 lots of different medication, then another 6 over the course of my ICSI. I also got a hospital 3 month car park pass for £30 that saved a fortune in parking costs if you are getting your treatment through the NHS x
yes on buserelin until 2 March at least x
i got all my medication for long protocol on one prescription & picked up at hospital pharmacy
nurse said without nhs card it would cost £90 - the card is £29, so no brainer for me. i also needed extra stims meds so that saved me even more.
nurse also told me she knew of someone who had bought their meds in boots & spent almost £1k 😯
good luck with your treatment ✨
Sorry to jump in just wondering how much the medication costs on the NHS (I've not been told that yet).
My first cycle was private and I had to paid over £1,000 for the medication alone,
So I see this post and made me wonder if it's the same price for medication on NHS or is it a normal NHS prescription fee or slightly more,
And what is the NHS card and can I apply,
I'm based in kent and my cycle of ivf hopefully starts in April/may
Just waiting on some blood test but got to wait a month to take them
I'm guessing I'll be told all this when I go to the clinic once I've got the go ahead after my result :/)
I may be wrong but when I've had private prescriptions in the past they cost more but I think it depends on the medication. I'm not sure how many prescriptions I'll need. It seems some ladies need more than others. Buserelin for 2 wks was one prescription charge. The pre payment card is £29.10 so I've applied and then you can get a refund for the prescription bought today. Hope this helps!xx
Hi louisear I would definitely go for the NHS prescription card, like the others said it's approx £30 for 3 months and it's definitely worth it! We get one of those and a hospital parking pass for a month to save us finding change each time we go for blood tests etc. Wishing you lots of luck with your cycle! x x x
Thanks MommaBear, that's what I'll do! Good luck to you too. Everything crossed for you Best wishes xx
My clinic provided me with all medication so far so haven't paid anything (first time of ivf with nhs funding). Does this vary with ccg?
that's lucky Emmab, yes it must vary. Think I'll have to pay for about 7/8 in total xx
