Is this standard?

This morning we recieved a letter from the clinic (enclosed) after having our NHS funded cycle approved about a month ago. I'm more than a bit surprised, actually a bit upset, that they mention a "Welfare of the child" form. Is this form standard please?

It is standard Tugsgirl but it does seem a little unfair doesn't it given that we're that ones that would give anything to be parents but we are scrutinised from the start. Just think of it as part of the process and keep smiling :) x x x

Exactly none of my friends got asked before they had children if the welfare of the child was going to be met! I'm trying not to let it upset me any further x

Hi, the welfare of the child form is totally standard as far as I am aware so nothing personal at all. It's fairly straightforward so nothing to worry about. Good luck on your cycle.

And the financial audit? Is that just to establish our income re: the funding or will that come under welfare of the child too? I guess the thing I find the most upsetting is that we're being pre judged on our ability as parents when our one cycle may not even work

Hi it's a standard letter something to do with HFEA they have to check and there are lots of forms to sign and agree to, I think they told us that they also check it all with your local doctors as well. I think it's nothing at all to worry about and I welcomed the checks as it shows that they are not just money making machines, they also have to check on the parents to be as well.

Don't worry, forms signing will become second nature to you!

I know how it feels ....it's an odd thought isn't it that we would put ourselves through this process if we weren't 100% committed. I didn't have to do a financial audit for my one NHS cycle that I remember. This process can be undignified and frustrating in a whole load of unexpected ways ... just keep your eyes on the prize and try to breathe/laugh your way through as much of it as possible. It's funny the things that catch us out emotionally though ... get used to expecting the unexpected in terms of your own reactions!

It is standard indeed. Nothing to worry about, it's just practice. Good luck with it all.

It's definitely standard Tugsgirl. Just remember that it's to protect your future child and that if everyone who had a child did have to do it, the world would probably be a much better place. Good luck! X

I agree with that. It's a shame they don't! Some people truly don't deserve to be parents

What about our records to financial and quality audit? What is this?

To be honest, I know we had to sign to say we were financially secure, but I don't remember having to do a detailed financial audit. But different NHS trusts have different funding criteria, it may just be that your's are super, super strict. X

🤔 If we were that financially secure we wouldn't need the funding haha x

Hi- this was one of the first forms we filled in at our very 1st appointment before starting treatment as well as a consent form. I must say I was surprised at the questions, but I wouldn't worry it's compulsory for everyone.

It just seems a little harsh to me. No one else gets asked these questions before becoming parents (maybe they should!) It feels more like an adoption process. Thanks for your reply 😊

I agree, I work next to an adoption team- and they ask similar questions.x
