Hi all

I'm to have a US pelvis transvaginal tomorrow tomorrow as part of NHS tests for IVF referral. I'm feeling a little scared. Is it like a smear but longer?! I get really tense with those!

Hi allie, its honestly nothing to worry about its just a big probe. Theres no metal speculum or any uncomfortable feeling which comes with a smear test. You will be fine xx

Hi, ok thank you.

I'm feeling really tense today even thinking about it but the outcome of hopefully getting funding will put weigh my feeling about it. Just can't help being apprehensive about these things! 😬 X

Not as bad as smear just relax and you will be fine, they will soon come 2nd nature to you X

HI Allieb21, I have a theory abut these that as they are done by experts rather than GP they tend not to be as bad. Try not to worry ... they do make every effort for it to be as 'comfortable' as it is possible to be. Mine was fine even though I've had some really unpleasant smears before. Good luck on the beginning of your journey xxxx

Yea my first smear was awful and rest fine but I always remember the first one! Thank you. I'll probably be laughing about it tomorrow!!! I tend to talk a lot when I am nervous (the Irish in me!). Thank you xxx

Honestly it's absaloutley fine hun and I much prefer them to a smear plus it's quite exciting being able to see what's going on inside xx

Thank you. I hope I'm all ok in there!! Tests are all stemming from hubbies morphology problem but obviously I have to go through all this. Obviously i will do whatever for a hopeful positive outcome xx

Hi allie

I have endometriosis which means I occasionally struggle with things like smears if I've had a flare up of endo pain but throughout IVF I've found the internal scans absolutely fine, they're less uncomfortable than a smear because there's no 'opening' of the blades like with a speculum.

I hope you're feeling a bit more ready for it & this helps. You'll be fine, just take deep breaths. Lots of luck with everything xx

Try not to worry too much! It's no where near like a smear test. I usually find them a bit nippy. They use lots of lubricant so it's not sore, you might feel some pressure as they angle the probe but honestly it's ok! Good luck!x

You can look at them on Google images, just looks like a dildo to me 😉. Had to be designed by a man! xx

I just want to reassure that scans are not painful. Yes it is embarrassing having someone probe that 'area' but it's normally a lady doing it and they are so nice and jolly and put you at ease. They also put a towel or sheet over you so you have some dignity 🙌🏻. It's over really soon and is no where near as bad as a smear. X

Hi all thanks for making me feel calmer about it. Just done wasn't too bad phew! Apparently all looks good although one of my ovaries were trying to hide so was partial reading but the lady was happy with what she saw x
